With the change in season soon approaching, the change in makeup trends also starts to turn. Every year, fashion weeks across the world set up the trends for the upcoming year. This years main idea hub was New York Fashion Week. There, designers and makeup artists put their minds together and sent models onto the runway in looks not everyone was expecting.
While there will always be fall trends that don't change, like warm smokey eyes or bold lips, there are some trends not normally seen in the fall and winter this year. Being the makeup lover that I am, I love to see the trends the fashion industry sets up for makeup. While I don't always follow trends because let's face it, that would get boring quickly. It does, however, give some inspiration on days I don't know what to do.
So I did some research, and these seem to be the main trends for fall and winter 2016/2017!
Healthy Looking Skin
After this summer of dewy, full coverage skin it seems that makeup is changing to focus on more natural looking skin. Less full coverage, less dewy, more "skin like" in appearance. I'm not sure if I'l be on board with that because I love a good full coverage foundation, but I know my skin would love the break.
Natural Brows
Now this one is odd to me considering so many brands are releasing new brow products every where I look. In the past, the sharper the brow the better. It seems many artists are embracing their natural brows and only filling them in where needed. Again, this is a trend I probably won't follow suit with because I love my carved out brows.
Glitter Eyeliner
Normally, glitter is associated mostly with the holiday season because it's a festive way to do your makeup for all of the parties during the season. But on the runway, so many models were rocking glitter liner; it was on their eyes, under their brows, lining their lips, dripping down their face like tears. Glitter is here to stay.
Dark Berry Lips
A classic trend, the berry lip. This is timeless and comes around every year. To me, a dark berry or plum lip just speaks fall and clearly everyone else thinks so to.
Grungy Black Eyeliner
A lot of 90's trends are showing up in fashion, so it only makes sense that they start seeping into the makeup world to. Black, grungy and smokey liner were all over the runway. Whether it was minimal or all out, it was very apparent.
Peach
Now this trend is one that was kind of shocking to me. Usually, peach toned eye shadow and blush tend to stick in the spring and summer trends. But it's refreshing to see new things for the season. Besides, peach will compliment all of the warmed toned makeup coming out for fall.
Warm Toned Eye Shadow
Along with berry lips, warmed tone eye shadow is a classic fall trend. Whether it's straight red and orange or just warm browns, these smokey eyes come around year after year. I for one, am not complaining because I rock orange smokey eyes year round.
Red Lips
Just like glitter, red lips seem to associated with the festivities of the holiday season, but who wants to limit the beauty of a red lip to one season? Red is a perfect color for fall and compliments all of the other trends for this year. Red is such a classic color that looks good with pretty much any makeup look. It's timeless and effortless and shouldn't be limited to one season.
Lash Focus
Last but not least, we've come to the lashes. This year it's clear that the bigger the better. Whether it's building upon your natural lashes or wearing falsies, everyone wants big fluffy lashes.
While it's fun to see what the fashion industry and makeup community think will be popular this season, don't forget that makeup has no rules. While there will always be trends, don't feel like you have to follow these trends to be a good makeup artist. Makeup is art and can't be constricted to certain guidelines each season. Have fun, play around, and try new things!
