Fall seems to have become everyone's favorite season recently. Maybe its the pumpkin spice scent in the air or the promise of cuddly weather that makes everyone so excited for this season, but no matter what your reasoning, make sure to get the most out of this season with the help of these 10 essentials.
1. Your Fall Wardrobe
One of the best things about fall is finally getting to trade in your summer clothes. Good bye, tank tops and bikinis. Hello, over sized sweaters and high boots. This is the most versatile month because no one will call you out for wearing your coziest cardigan and favorite jeans one day and a thin T – shirt dress the next. The weather is constantly changing and so can you. It’s not yet cold enough to wear a real jacket, so it’s the perfect time to showcase your favorite leather jacket or comfy, new flannel. Vests are also a great way to accessorize as the temperature drops a bit and there are so many variation to choose from: denim, fringe, leather, or the classic puffy. There is a type for every outfit.
Fall is also the time to transition from shorts to jeans. After three months of summer, there is something really satisfying about finally getting to put on pants. Whether you love your jeans or swear by wearing leggings every day, it’ll feel comforting to get back into the routine and structure of wearing pants again.
2. Seasonal Drinks
It’s not an article about fall without a mention of pumpkin spice! Of course, this is the signature flavor of fall – it seems you can buy pumpkin spice everything - but let’s not forget all the other fall drinks we love. Personally, apple cider is my absolute favorite thing about the fall. I will drink it both hot and cold. I spent all of the other seasons forgetting it exists, but as soon as September comes around, I start to get a craving for apples.
Nothing makes me happier than apple cider, hot and cold. I decrease in the temperature also leads to an increase of hot chocolate and coffee consumption, which no one is complaining about. Starting the day off with a cute little mug, steaming hot and deliciously scented, is enough to get me out of bed on those chilly mornings.
3. Cozy blankets
While every season is perfect for blankets in my opinion, there is no better time to have some on hand than fall. They’re decorative, but very functional. Utilize your favorite one by curling up on the coach with a nice book or your favorite TV show on Netflix. You can spread them out on the grass on a sunny day or bring one to a Friday or Saturday night football game to keep yourself warm. Fall is the only season where you can pretend its super cold without being in danger of losing limbs to frostbite.
4. Darker make-up trends
If you’re a make-up enthusiast like some of my friends, now is your time to shine. Darker and warmer colors such as plum, berry or any shade of red are perfect for dramatic lips. Dark nails are also very popular during the fall. Shimmery golds and bronzes on the eyes will add warmth, with neutral face make-up to balance out the look. On the bright side, you probably won’t sweat your face off since it’s no longer 90 degrees every day!
5. A versatile bag
With classes starting up now, every girl needs a nice bag to keep all their stuff in. Fabrics such as leather, suede, tweed, and denim are perfect for this season and match most clothes very nicely. Having one item that ties everything together will make you feel prepared to tackle your days with major confidence and you’ll never make the mistake of forgetting something important at home.
6. Seasonal treats
Fall wouldn’t be the same without our favorite seasonal food. If you’re a fan of pie, be sure to take advantage of the large number of apples being harvested around this time of year. Pumpkins are also great for making pies and also for drying the seeds for a salty snack. As we approach Thanksgiving, eggnog will also start dominating the super market shelves along with spice cakes and sweat potatoes.
7. Scented candles
Candles really bring the scents of fall to life. With flavors such as “Autumn Leaves,” “Macintosh,” and “Spiced Pumpkin” on the bestselling list at Yankee candle, there is obviously a very big market for these products. These scents are very homey and make us all feel a little comforted. If you’re in a dorm room where candles are not allowed, plug-in air fresheners and spray air fresheners will also do the trick.
8. Festive Decorations
Don’t forget to further display your love of fall with a bunch of decorations! With many of the best holidays landing in the fall, each month have its own distinct feel. Wreaths are a perfect way to ring in the fall during September, when the leaves are just starting to color. October is designated for pumpkins of course. Pick a day and go to a pumpkin patch with all of our friends and make sure to take lots of pictures! Scarecrows are also a great addition to pumpkins. Finish out the season with cornucopias in November. Not a single week this fall will feel ordinary with the right decorations.
9. A ticket to at least one football game
Is it really fall if you don’t watch football? Whether you’re into the sport or not, going to a game is essential, whether it’s high school, college, or professional. Personally, there is nothing I love more about the fall than getting to stand under the stadium lights while I watch my team play. So, get a group of friends together and tailgate before the game to get the full experience. The cozy blanket will definitely come in handy if it gets cold out.
10. Access to a fire pit
This is more difficult for college kids, but if you’re lucky enough to have one, put it to good use. Bonfire nights with friends will create unforgettable memories. In high school, my friends and I used to do them all the time. It’s the perfect way to enjoy the weather before it gets too cold while also being a great excuse to make a bunch of s'mores!
So go out into the world and collect what you need because fall starts on September 23rd! Grab your pumpkin spice lattes, fluffy scarves, and high knee boots, and don't worry. You have 89 whole days until winter to enjoy all of your favorite things about fall!
