When you go into Sephora and you’re looking for a new mascara, the only thing probably on your mind is whether you want it to lengthen your lashes or add volume. But truthfully, you should be thinking about something a little more important.
Every single makeup brand has their own policy on animal testing. Most don’t allow it, but some find sneaky ways of letting it happen without most buyers knowing. During the process of animal testing, animals are burned, shocked, poisoned, starved, brain-damaged, and killed. Animals tested on include kittens, rabbits, rats, dogs, monkeys and hamsters.
Sometimes it’s pretty easy to find out whether the brand is cruelty-free or not because if they are, they’re pretty damn proud of it. A logo will be plastered on the box as clear as day. Other times, usually when brands aren’t cruelty-free, it’s almost impossible to find out. Thankfully because of our good friend Google, it’s easy to do your research and find out how companies feel about animal testing.
There are many brands that are proudly cruelty-free that have great products. Lush is a company fighting against animal testing that sells soaps, shampoos and bath bombs. Tarte is another amazing makeup line that sells lipstick, foundation, eye makeup and skin care and doesn't test on animals.
I urge everyone to check boxes, do your research and ask if you’re unsure. Let’s be honest, who really wants our fluffy friends to suffer for something we can easily help prevent? If you open your makeup bag, how many animals will have suffered for just one of your tubes of lipstick?
