7 Ways To Make the Most Out Of Your Summer
Rachel Budke

We all know about that summer procrastination. We all become a victim of the laziness, being bored and wondering what we’re going to do today. It’s easy to end up becoming nonproductive, and then at the end of the summer, you look back and are disappointed with what you accomplished. Here’s seven ways to make the most out of your summer.

1. Wake up at a decent hour.

Now, I’m saying to go crazy and wake up at 6 a.m. (unless you like to wake up that early) but wake up at 9 or 10. The earlier you wake up, the more time you have to accomplish things in your day. You’ll end up feeling better when you’ve finished a project, and it’s only 1 p.m., and you have the whole day still ahead of you.

2. Work, work, work.

Yeah, I know, working is never something you really want to do unless you’re a koala-cuddler or Justin Bieber’s entourage. But in reality, you’ll feel like you’ve done so much more when you’ve worked a decent amount of time in the day. Plus, you’ll be making some mad money, and we all know how expensive life is. You can put it toward something you really want or perhaps toward those crazy college loans.

3. Take a summer class.

Ew, yes, I know. Boring! But, you’ll feel so much better in the fall semester if you have one less class to worry about then. Motivating yourself to do the work is hard sometimes, but being able to say you’re learning while everyone else’s brains are dormant and losing IQ points is very important.

4. Learn a new skill.

Yes, you heard me! Pick up something new that you’ve always wanted to do. Whether it be learning to skateboard, writing code, painting or whatever your heart desires, do it! Summer is a great time to do it, and we all know we won’t be that lucky with time during the school year!

5. Read books.

Finishing a book is such a good feeling. Being able to know the full story, whatever genre you choose, is nice. Plus, you’ll be gaining a little knowledge during your time.

6. Volunteer.

Find something you’re really passionate about and would want to donate your time to. It can be anything you want. Love animals? Volunteer at a local animal shelter. Have a future in the medical field? Contact your local hospital about helping out. Interested in fashion? Try Dress for Success. You can easily search volunteering online, and they’ll help match you up with your perfect place. Your summer will be one to remember if you use your precious time to help others.

7. Do what you love!

This one is open to interpretation. You don’t have to do any of these, but try to make the most out of your summer. Do something you're passionate about so you can look back on the summer and know you used your time wisely and on something you love! Do whatever is going to make you happiest and feel like the best version of yourself.

Hope everyone has a happy and productive summer. Do what you love!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
