It's that point in the semester where our dollars are being stretched even further than they already were. Instead of saying yes every time you're asked to go get ice cream or pizza, you have to turn down a few folks, or suggest eating on campus so you can use your meal plan.
You've probably bought too many t-shirts, or if you are anything like me, you spent too much money decorating your apartment or dorm. Hobby Lobby should consider me an investor at this point. Between bills, groceries, gas, and the fun activities we simply cannot turn down, face it, we're broke. Personally, I have 43 bucks left until my next paycheck (TWO WEEKS AWAY HELP) and I am making it last as long as I can. Can you say, "Ramen for days?"
When you've run out of money and your parents aren't up for giving you any more cash, what do you do? STRIPPING IS NOT THE ANSWER, unless you are really into that, then by all means, you do you. But below are some ways to make some extra moolah without conflicting morals and selling your soul that I use personally and/or know people who do these things successfully.
1. Selling clothing and accessories.
You can always make a little extra cash by selling things you don't wear anymore and there are several ways to do this! You can sell on social network sites like Facebook, thrift sites like ThredUp.com, or my personal favorites Mercari and Poshmark. Personally, Mercari is the easiest and you can do it through an app on your phone. If you sign up using my code, we both get free money (heck yea!). My code is SFXUJA :). But with sites like these, it usually take little to no effort depending on how much money you are trying to make. Don't want to get rid of your beloved items? Check out #6!
2. Driving for Uber or Lyft.
If you have a vehicle that is in safe driving condition and is insured and you are also at least 21 years of age, you can drive for money! Any of your friends asking you for a ride lately? The drunks needing a ride home from the bar? You work when you want and you are basically a trendy taxi. I am in the process of signing up to be a driver for Uber and I recommend you trying it too. Stay safe!
3. Job title: baby-sitter, pet-sitter, do-it all- guy/gal.
Via Care.com you can hire yourself out for a multitude of jobs ranging from baby/pet sitters, errand runners, cleaners, tutors, etc..., you can do basically anything the person or family needs (within reason). I have also recently checked into this site and may have a tutoring job in line eventually. It's easy to sign up!
4. Selling bodily fluids.
I am scared of needles so I definitely have not tried this one, but some of my friends have. You can sell plasma usually for about $50 a donation session depending on how much you give. You can only do this ever so often because you have to allow your body to regenerate what it's lost. If you are male, you can sell semen to sperm banks--I know nothing about this specifically, but I know people do it. Selling bone marrow is also legal in 9 states.
5. Renting your wardrobe.
Similar to #1, but without having to get rid of your things! Through an app called "Curtsy" you can rent your clothes and costumes to people in your area! You set the price and the app does all the work! Whoever rents from you can arrange a time for them to try on your clothes and pick them up through the app.
Last, but not least...
6. Lawn care.
There are always little elderly people that could use some help with their lawns, I wouldn't expect to make the big bucks here, and maybe you would donate your time just to help them out, but each season provides different opportunity! In the Summer and Spring, you could water/mow grass, plant gardens, manage flower beds, and much more. During the Fall, raking leaves is always a given and in the Winter, shoveling snow (if you live in the South, then you'd still be raking leaves).
If you're looking to make an extra buck pretty quickly, the above odd jobs are a fail proof way to do so. There are other options out there and they also vary by region, but the ones above are ones I personally know to be successful! Good luck, make safe choices, and try to keep it legal!
