Senioritis is an epidemic taking over high school and college campuses. When I was 16 years old, I was ready to be done with my whole school career. I couldn’t wait to graduate and start living my life. Two years later, I finally graduated high school and was on my way to college. That meant four more years of school. I always enjoyed going to school when I was a little kid, but that changed when I wanted to move on to other things when I got older. It seemed like school was taking over my life more than usual.
In college, I may have classes for a shorter time period than a kid still in high school, but professors expect at least two hours of homework time every night. With five classes, that’s ten hours of homework each night. That’s fifty hours a week spent on homework and not just class time. This is more than a full time job. How can I be expected to do all of that work and also have a job? College is expensive and I think that most college students cannot survive without at least a part time job.
I am so ready to be done with school and actually start my life. I have enjoyed learning, but there is so much more to learn in the world than a book can teach me. There are life experiences that I can’t learn from a textbook. I have spent most of my life in school and want to finally be free from it. I have three semesters left of my Bachelor’s degree and I’m trying to make the most of it because I know once I’m in the real world working for a job I’ll be wishing for the days that I was kind of worry free. I know that I’ll miss the days where I can nap during the day, but I want to learn outside of the classroom. I want to have a job that gives me more than fifteen hours a week. I want to travel and see the places that I’ve learned about in novels and textbooks.
When I finally graduate, I’ll be grateful for the time I got to spend in school, but I’ll also be happy that I’m free to learn what I want when I want.
