There are two types of luau's that we go to:
1. The Awkward Luau of freshmen year
2. The Annual Luau
"The luau that got so much hype this year actually turned out to be great!", said no one ever. This year, we were #blessed with pouring rain. On top of that, the bouncers couldn't have been more aggressive. Here's what I thought about my night.
Why should the bouncer just get to push around like an a$$hole while the rest of us try not to get shoved by his big arms? We're just as human as the bouncer, right? We're just as stressed as the bouncers. People should respect us as much as the bouncers think they should get respected. And when did it become okay for bouncers to pin people to the floor because they cut the line a little bit...because that's not what ticket parties are about! We should totally just stab the bouncers!
^ Mean girl's reference for those of you who didn't know.
I witnessed several people plummet towards the ground because they were in a bouncer's way. This one bouncer would plow through the crowd, not caring what or who he hurt along his way. It was scary to watch as one casualty happened after another. I know of two girls who had to get stitches, and several others with bruises as battle wounds. Oh, and did you hear about the handful of people who got pepper-sprayed?
Back to the topic of rain, of course there happened to be torrential downpour as all of this pushing went down. This just made everyone, including these angry-to-begin-with bouncers, more upset and irritable. I personally held a Hawaiian shirt above my head during the 40 minutes of waiting and being shoved, only to find my head got drenched regardless (sorry again that I lost the shirt, Deirdre). The rain was at a consistent downpour the whole night too! Again, #blessed. Shoutout to Mill for having to pay $60 for another ticket because her printed ticket wasn't dry enough.
You may think that once people got into the venue things would have lightened up, right? Well, it didn't. The area where we stood to physically get into the 18 or 21 section happened to have no ceiling. So again, we all stood in the rain for another 20 minutes. If you thought the shoving was bad in the ticket line, you probably wouldn't have survived in this wristband line.
By the time I even got near the front of this endless second line, the bouncers screamed that the only options were to go in as 18 or to go home. There's more to my story but I think you all get the picture. #Luau2015 was awesome, hype it.
Let me throw in a few positives about this night though, considering I did make it sound like the worst night of everyones lives...
1. You got to see all your friends, and what could be better than that!
2. You got a great story out of it- who doesn't love sharing crazy stories
3. I'm sure the bouncers are great to their families and friends. (maybe?)
4. Once you were inside and relatively dry, it was overall a good time... hopefully.
