With the election ending as crazily as it began and ran for the past two years, I don't have much to say about the outcome. At the same time, I could say a bunch in verse, so here's something that could seep into you.
I am not a lover, in that sense.
I am a lover who stares out to shore
Off an accelerating ship, towards the
Future and relegating past customs
To the shore that glitters in fool’s gold and
Crusted silver.
I am a lover who desires all of it.
Someone who loves all of humanity
And its future abroad out on that shore.
But then, the clouds darken
And besieges, choking paradise
Out of the realm; a kingdom
Once discovered to be the white light
On black paper.
But shut down, never to return,
The rain falls, like a curtain of tears.
Tears shedding from people whom I’ll never know,
With different struggles,
But those, in their aloft nature,
Ultimately sees the depth of their naivete,
Brazen with promises they cannot keep,
And unaware for the girl sailing adrift
Towards the shore.
But I still love them.
I love life, I love humanity, and I
Want to see the stars again.
I want to embrace the flaws of the island
I’m about to cross,
And make it bloom with a force
All of humanity will observe and arrive to.
