9 Reasons Rainy Days Will Always Be My Favorite
Luke Stackpoole

I have definitely gone through phases in the past when I am either completely content with the groggy, sulky weather when it’s raining, or am not so much a fan of it. Although, it is very rare that I am not in the mood for rain—and in that case, it is usually only when I’m shopping at the outlets and would much rather not be completely soaked.

I often find the rain extremely comforting, and as today was one of those rainy days, I found myself accomplishing so much and being filled with productivity. For those of us who embrace the rain, and truly anticipate they days when it occurs, here are 9 reasons why:

1. It’s comforting.

The rain always gives a feeling of comfort. Sometimes, it is simply easier to relax and tune-in to yourself while it is raining. It is good to have this time to just reflect.

2. An excuse to get work done.

Whenever it is raining, one of the things I am likely to do is tackle my to-do list. With my crazy schedule, I love branching off to a coffee shop and spending hours completing important tasks that I will appreciate later for getting ahead on. I find it much easier to concentrate on a rainy setting.

3. If I am having an off day, it is a good day to let my emotions out.

We all know the sulky mood the rain can sometimes give off, but it gives us a chance to embrace it! It is good to tune in with your emotions, and I am often able to do so on rainy days.

4. The sound.

The sound of the rain is one of the most comforting things—aside from city traffic, of course. The calming sound leads to productivity, relaxation, and distraction from our crazy busy lives.

5. The outfits.

Rainy day outfits are some of my favorites to dress for. Aside from my Converse becoming soaked, rainy days always have me inspired by my wardrobe. Skinny jeans, trench coats, and sweaters always come out during these days.

6. A break from the chaos.

Often during rainy days, it is much less busy outdoors as people tend to stay in. Although I love my busy cities, it is sometimes nice to have a break from the energy to just breathe.

7. An excuse to bundle up.

I love being warm, and due to this, dressing in layers is something I am often a fan of. Being able to do so on rainy days often comes with much excitement.

8. The aesthetic.

There is something about the aesthetic of rainy days which I just love so much. It is the perfect weather for coffee shops, writing, and a book—each being some of my favorite things.

9. The smell.

Lastly, the smell of the rain is something I am such a fan of. The refreshing, clean aroma of the rain will always be one of its best attributes.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
