Don't Hate Yourself For Everything You Aren't, Love Yourself For Everything You Are

Worry about loving yourself, instead of loving the idea of other people loving you.

Don't Hate Yourself For Everything You Aren't, Love Yourself For Everything You Are
Justin Luebke

As humans, we are our biggest critics. We wake up in the morning every day, shower, get dressed, brush our teeth and then we look in the mirror. We look and we criticize ourselves. “Too much acne”, “can’t grow facial hair”, “too fat”, “too skinny”, etc.

We always are so hard on ourselves because we expect to be perfect, but perfection is something we cannot achieve.

We hate ourselves for everything we aren’t when we should be loving ourselves for everything that we are.

Instead of looking in the mirror and criticizing the way we look, we need to learn to embrace it and love ourselves for who we truly are.

Loving yourself is the most important concept that everyone must learn in order to live a happy, successful life. Life is way too short be dragging on yourself and beat yourself up over little things that you can’t control. The sooner you learn this, the happier you will be.

Now, that is not to say that learning to love yourself is easy, it is hard at first and it does take time. But when you finally learn to love and accept yourself for who you are, your days start to become a little better. You feel happier, you appreciate the little things in life, and you don’t let your flaws bother you no matter how big or small they are.

Even as I write about the importance of loving yourself and looking past your flaws, it is still something that I have struggled with for a while and I still struggle with it. Sometimes I find it really hard to look past my flaws and I feel very self-conscious about myself. But life is too short to let this get to me.

For a while, I have been taking time for myself and learning to love myself and I can honestly say that my life has been a lot better since I began to start taking the steps of loving myself. Like I realize that I am not perfect, I will make mistakes, and that it is ok. It’s ok to make mistakes sometimes but you can’t always beat yourself up for them. You just have to brush it off and keep moving, life is way too short to dwell on the tiny mistakes.

Loving yourself may be difficult, but it is necessary for everyone when it comes to being happy.

To whoever is reading this article, I hope you love yourself and you are confident in who you are. Because I know what it feels like to have zero self-confidence and you just feel awful. But like I keep saying, life is too short to hate everything that you aren’t and too short to beat yourself up over the little mistakes you’ve made.

No one is perfect, everyone has flaws, but there comes a point when you have to say "screw it, I don’t care what people think of me, I don’t care what flaws I have, I’m going to love myself and live my best life".

To whoever is reading this, just remember, don’t hate yourself for everything you aren’t and start loving yourself for everything you are.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
