Before you go looking for love, make sure you love yourself. If you don't love yourself and all of your perks and quirks, how do you expect someone to do the same?
You're human. You're going to have your low days where you do not feel like the hot little thing you are. You need to be able to look in that mirror anyway and recognize that you're still beautiful, both inside and out. You need to be able to look past any of the flaws you feel you may have. You need to rock those flaws and own it.
Love yourself.
People are going to talk about you. It's inevitable. Not everyone is going to like you or your outfit or your choices. As long as you are satisfied with yourself and can say you are happy, who cares. Let them talk. Stop trying to please everyone else and just please your damn self.

You're going to make mistakes. You're going to hate yourself and wish you could take it back, but you can't. Accept it. Forgive yourself. Learn from it. Know that everything happens for a reason and your life is continuing on because you can get through it. Think about all the amazing accomplishments you have done in your however many years of life and be proud of yourself.

You need to have the love for yourself before you go looking for someone to give you that love. You need to be able to stand on your own two feet without any support, because you can do it for yourself. You can pick yourself back up and get back in the game. You can do it all.
Love yourself.
Being alone will suck at first. Build your self love, and you will never be lonely. Love yourself enough to go to bed with a smile on your face in your empty bed cuddling a pillow because you have realized your worth. Love yourself enough to go home alone even though that cute guy at the bar bought you a drink, because you know what you want and it isn't a hook-up. Love yourself enough to be comfortable in your own skin. I'm talking running errands in a baggy tee, no make-up, and a baseball cap because you're just as gorgeous without makeup and your hair done.
Love yourself because you have yourself for the rest of your life. With this new self love, your next love will love you even more.
