5 Reasons To Love Longwood University
Britannica

Going to a small school has so many advantages that you just can’t find at a larger university. Longwood has a total of 4,613 undergraduate students, and that small size has led me to so many opportunities I never even thought possible. I wouldn't want to be anything but a Lancer, and, in light of Love Your Longwood Day, here are 5 things that I love about this amazing university:

1. You'll never walk on campus without seeing someone you know.

Even if I am walking to class alone, I have never once walked to a class without seeing a friendly face. Not only that, but because campus is so small, you'll always have time to stop and chat with those friendly faces. You can get to any point on campus within 5 minutes or less.

2. We're rich with traditions.

Longwood is full of traditions and superstitions. If you want to graduate on time, avoid failing your classes, and not have blue babies, you probably shouldn't step on those blue Rotundas painted around campus. They embody the spirit of Longwood, and stepping on them crushes our spirit! Need some luck? Go hop on one of the painted black crowns around campus! There are also many events that have become tradition on campus; from color wars to spring weekend, you'll never be bored here.

3. There are endless opportunities to join organizations/clubs.

You really have to try not to find your place here. Longwood makes it so easy to find a group of people that are interested in the same things as you. From scooter club to Greek life, you'll definitely find your place and people here.

4. You are able to have personal relationships with your professors.

I don't just mean within the classroom. Professors go out of their way to makes sure you're okay. Our small class sizes make it possible for professors to get to know their students, and they can really tell when you're not yourself. Just last semester, one of my professors held the very last class of the semester in her own kitchen and cooked for all of us. You can't get that kind of relationship just anywhere.

5. Campus is beautiful.

Despite all of the construction, Longwood is and always will be the most beautiful campus I have ever seen. Laying out on Stubbs Mall, sitting on Brock commons, or hanging out at one of the many fountains on campus are some of my favorite activities. I can't wait to see how the campus becomes even more beautiful when the new buildings are finished!

So why do you love your Longwood?

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
