Here’s why New Year’s resolutions are important and why I love them.

New year, new me is a motto you hear a lot at the start of the new year. People make goals and resolutions that they want to stick to, but often time fail at them. But does that mean people should just give up and not even try to have a New Year’s resolution?

I love making resolutions for myself for the new year. Even if I stop going to the gym after a month at least I went for that month. I could stick with it through the entire year, though, and come out of the year feeling great about how I look and feel.

I set lots of goals and resolutions for myself. I often set goals that are unrealistic, but striving for new and bigger goals is just as important, if not more important, than succeeding at them. Failure doesn’t mean you can’t try again. To keep up with New Year’s resolutions, you often have to refocus yourself multiple times throughout the year. As long as you continue to think about your goals and what you should be doing to reach them, you will be more likely to achieve them. I have to try to accomplish my resolutions multiple times throughout the year and remind myself to get back on track, but I never stop trying.

Some of the goals I have for myself in 2017 are reading at least one book a month, starting a blog, and being able to do 50 push-ups. Your resolutions can be anything because they’re yours. You can set one big goal or you can set 50 small goals, as long as your goals are something you want to strive for.

Set resolutions in all areas of your life: school, work, fitness, personal, etc.. Have clear and specific things you want to accomplish by the end of the year. Setting clear objectives for yourself will make you more likely to achieve them. Envisioning what you want and how you want your life to be will make you more likely to get there.

Remember that it’s never too late to start something. Your resolution can be to go to the gym multiple times week, even if you’ve never been to the gym once in your life. Your resolution can be to write for 10 minutes every day, even if you’ve always hated writing. It’s never too late to try something new because you have no idea if you’ll succeed at something if you’ve never tried.

I love New Year’s resolutions because they allow you to set specific goals for yourself and try to reach them throughout the year. I love being able to continuously work towards something to try and better myself. I love being able to try new things and work harder for things I’ve already done. I try and envision where I want to be at the end of the year and set goals that will help me get there.

I have set a lot of goals for myself for 2017 and I’m excited to strive for all of them. Maybe this is the year that I can actually accomplish all of them or maybe I miss the mark for another year. Either way, I’ll be growing as a person, learning new things abut myself, and experiencing a new year of both challenges and joy.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
