Thanksgiving. The beloved day by many to pig out, catch up with your family, and watch football. While I love the majority of Thanksgiving food stereotypes, I cannot stand the taste of turkey. Nothing against my dad, because he is a phenomenal cook, it's just the dried out, bland, cardboard, turkey doesn't do anything for me. Pass the mashed potatoes and green beans, but hold the turkey.
The holiday of Thanksgiving is the foundation of many memories with my family. Whether the day is spent with my extended family or just my immediate family, good times are shared all around. Especially being away from home for nearly four months, getting to see my mom and dad and siblings is so exciting. The weeks leading up to thanksgiving are filled with anticipation and nostalgia of reminiscing on past Thanksgiving memories. I love the holiday and I love how it has the power to bring families together.
That being said, I love most of the food associated with Thanksgiving, but not the turkey. Baked, grilled, even fried, but still I can't bring myself to say I enjoy the taste of turkey. Some method of cooking the turkey are better than others, but I've come to the realization that it's not how you cook it, turkey is just not my cup of tea. In my opinion, I say ditch the turkey and grill up chicken or sear some steak or maybe even a nice pot roast.
I feel almost guilty admitting that I don't like turkey. I feel like I'm dissing the holiday for not liking it. I love all the other foods associated with Thanksgiving, but turkey just isn't for me.
