12 Reasons To Love Stone Harbor
Ann Delaney

Stone Harbor is a quiet gem snuggled along the coast in southern New Jersey. I've been going to Stone Harbor for as long as I can remember. It's a wonderful place. I'm often torn between telling people about all about Stone Harbor and keeping it a secret. Unlike other beach towns in the area, Stone Harbor remains an unspoiled beauty that isn't consumed with the placelessness of vacation destinations. Here are a few of the many things to love about Stone Harbor.

1. Kohr's custard

It's a good day when the most pressing question is: rainbow or chocolate jimmies?

2. Great guarded beaches

The beach is always pristine, and the top-notch lifeguards give all beach goers peace of mind.

3. Bike friendly streets

In Stone Harbor, safe bike lanes allow everyone (from die-hard road bikers to tots with training wheels) to pedal along to their heart's content.

4. Bustling downtown

After dinner, everyone heads downtown to Stone Harbor's cozy, bustling downtown. Happy walkers line the streets with shopping bags and ice cream cones in hand.

5. Springer's

A Stone Harbor tradition. Often a long wait, but the most dedicated Springer's lover isn't phased by the wait at all.

6. Fudge Kitchen

Some may say that heroes wear capes, but in Stone Harbor, they wear white pants and a navy blue polo. The workers at the Fudge Kitchen, with their free samples, have been delighting Stone Harbor visitors for decades.

7. Wetland's Institute

A wonderful place to go, rain or shine. On sunny days, nothing is as beautiful as a kayak session exploring the wetlands or a salt marsh safari. Perfect for children or children at heart.

8. Bird sanctuary

The bird sanctuary towards the end of the island is a peaceful retreat for birds and humans alike. It's great for walks, exploring and good old fashioned thinking.

9. Nun's beach

Marked by the huge pearly white Villa Maria convent, Nun's beach is a destination for the surf savvy. Surfers and sisters unite under Nun's beach's catchphrase: pray for surf. Also, it's always fun to see the new Nun's beach t-shirt design each year.

10. Kayaking around the island

Whether ocean kayaking or paddling around the many bays, Stone Harbor is a great place for those with an oar in their hand and a sense of adventure in their heart.

11. The Sunday market

Summertime in Stone Harbor means the Sunday farmer's market at the water tower. Not only can you get Jersey fresh fruits and veggies, you can also grab a post-church breakfast of hot donuts, crepes, fresh juices or scones.

12. Summer concert series

Tuesdays at the Tower brings great music and fun vibes to Stone Harbor. Grab your beach chairs and enjoy a magical, musical evening.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
