Shonda Rhimes is notorious for being able to hit all of your emotions in all three, maybe four, of her shows, if you're into "Netflix and cry." Shonda has created "Grey's Anatomy," "Private Practice," "Scandal," and "How to Get Away with Murder." Every time I watch an episode of one of these shows, every feeling is triggered, with "Scandal" being my most emotion-drawing favorite. From your "Grey's Anatomy" feelings of hatred to feeling "Scandal"-fierce and "HTGAWM's" mysterious side, we watch these shows because somehow Shonda created a feeling of belonging in our hearts and attached us to the stories of these characters. Well, Shonda, we see you ... and we love you.
Shonda has found a way to love some characters and hate others. When I watched "Grey's," I had an emotional attachment to Cristina, for instance. In "Scandal" it's Olivia, and in "HTGAWM" it's Wes. Shonda creates such powerful stories with these characters that you have to love or hate them, there is no in-between.
More importantly, she introduced us to our "person." Coined by Meredith Grey and Cristina Yang, then later carried on by Alex Karev. This phrase showed us how important it is to rely on that one person, no matter who it is or where they are. She inspired us to find our own "person."
She also showed us our power. Just like Olivia, we all yearn for some power, like the Oval in Olivia's case. But if you watch how Olivia handles herself between clients, she is simply fierce.
Shonda knows how to play with suspense ...
She somehow manages to push society into discussing topics like abortion, LGBT, political corruption, feminism, and more.
And no matter who she kills off or where the story goes, we all still love this woman for everything she has created and has done through her TV shows and movies. Who can really create conversation with three equally fantastic shows? Everyone I know has seen at least one of her shows and has loved every second of it. No matter who you are, what you do, or anything, just watch one of these shows. You'll fall in love!
Thank you, Shonda Rhimes, for bringing us "Grey's Anatomy," "Scandal," and "HTGAWM." You're truly an inspiration.
So sit down with a glass of wine and watch them back-to-back on ABC starting at 8 p.m.! #TGIT
