When you think of working out and gyms, what comes to mind? That incredibly buff dude who is lifting more weights than you knew existed, or that fit girl running 5 miles on the treadmill without breaking a sweat. But what doesn't come to mind is all the overweight people who are trying to live a healthy lifestyle.
Most of the time overweight people don't like going to the gym because they feel like they would get judged. They think that people will just laugh and hate on them. I have to admit going to the gym when you are out of shape or not living a healthy lifestyle is scary. You might not know how to work an individual machine or even where to start on your workout.
There have been plenty of times when I am running on the treadmill and see workout partners staring at an overweight person while laughing and whispering it each other. It breaks my heart. Those are the type of people who keep others from reaching their goals. It is sad how many times I have seen this happen and it needs to stop.
I love going to the gym. Not to lose weight or get buff (although it is a plus), but my favorite thing about going to the gym is seeing all the overweight people working hard to change their lives despite all the negative things holding them back.
Watching overweight people at the gym motivates me. It reminds me always to reach my goal even though I will have trials in my way. It also reminds me that whatever I want in life I need to work for it. Seeing these wonderful humans keep me open minded and non-judgemental. I was once in their spot. Sure I wasn't overweight, but I was a new person entering the world of working out.
To all the overweight humans wanting a healthy lifestyle,
I know this is cliche but just do it. Make a plan, and live by it. Accept the fact the people are going to judge you but you know what, those people don't matter. If you honestly want something and willing to work your tail off for it, some ignorant person should not stop you. People are rude and disrespectful, don't let that scare you from being happy. Use that to motivate you. You drive me to work hard, and I look up to you.
And if you're an ignorant personal judging an overweight person trying to change their lifestyle,
Just stop. That's not cool. Why are you going to put someone down who is trying to get their life together and reach their goals? How would you feel if someone laughed at you working to achieve your goals? You think they can't hear you or see you but trust me, they can. You are crushing their confidence that took them weeks or even months to build up. You're just making yourself look bad. How about next time you see an overweight person at the gym, smile and tell them to keep up the good work.
