Love, Your Secret Admirier

To the One I Adore,

This is a special Valentine's Message just for you. To tell you how lovely you are, how much your inspire me, how dear you are to my heart. To sing out praises of the grandeur of your companionship. To say thank you for all the things you do. To say I adore you.

What a beautiful soul to be paired with. Your heart shines through your every action, every smile, every word. You live with such purpose, such drive. To all who encounter you, you leave them with a smile on their lips and happiness in their soul. You are contagiously joyful. Even in your darkest days, you find the time to make me smile, you find the time to put others ahead of yourself, you find the time to show the people you love and even simple strangers the kindness we should all strive to share.

You tackle each day with an end goal in mind. You prepare for tomorrow yesterday, or last week. You are present, which so few people can say. You are engaged, showing your interest, your compassion, your sympathy, your courage. You are who you are without apology. You walk in this world, head held high, but also humble enough to kneel to meet even the lowest of the low. What an incredible heart. What an incredible mind.

My smile is for you. For the secrets we share, for the laughter we know, for the moments between just you and I, for the future, for the past, for this very second. You wander my thoughts, my dreams. My heart sings for you because you are love and joy, and all the things I wish to be. How lovely it is to be in your presence. How special it is to be the one you call yours. My heart beats for you, every second of the day.

What a wonderful life it is, when shared with you. To do the mundane with, or the wild and adventurous. To tell you my dreams, or the nightmares that haunt me. To be wrapped up in the security that is you. To know my trust in you will not be forsaken. To be respected and cherished. You have shown me who you are in relation to me and to you on your own. And how luck I am to be loved by you. To be your friend, your partner, your confidant, your supporter, your counselor. You hold me accountable, and I do the same. You push me higher, and help me stand when my own legs are weak.

You do so much. You are considerate, you are patient, you are kind, and you are gentle. These things are so deeply appreciated, but seldom mentioned. You are above and beyond anything the heart could even imagine. You are everything I could ever need or want. You anticipate what I need, and show me you care. You make me feel special, which is no simple task. You make me feel like I am enough, and for that I can never repay you for except to try and make you as happy as you have made me.

So here's to you my sweet Valentine. I adore you.

xoxo,

Your Secret Admirer

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
