This week has been a very trying time. Not only for the United States but for my own town, Dallas, Texas. From violence, to chaos, to questions, who knows what is next to come. All we know is what we can do. No one knows what exactly happened, no one knows what exactly will happen, but what I do know if that i love my community.
Living in a small town right next to Dallas comes with its perks. Tons of restaurants, fun attractions, and a great city vibe. This past week should have caused me to hate living where I do. It should've scared me so much that I don't want to go downtown anymore. In reality, it did the opposite.
If you have been living under a rock, then you obviously missed that this past week four Dallas Police Officers as well as one DART officer were killed in the line of duty at the end of a Black Lives Matter peaceful protest. The next day, my town made me cry happy tears.
With everything in the news about bad cops, or police brutality, we often forget the millions of amazing cops that put their lives on the line every single day. The Coppell community not only celebrated our Fire and Police departments but paid tribute to all police officers.
During the wee hours of the morning our "Coppell, Texas" Facebook page was full of ideas of how to show our cops our appreciation and everyone wanted to help. Our community ended up bringing breakfast to the PD, lunch with snacks that will last the week, fruit, drinks, basically anything they could need. The support doesn't stop there. That same day driving around town, all you say were blue pieces of tape on the back of all cars. Not only were the parents showing support, but two kids took it upon themselves to help the fallen police officer's families. Two kids decided to have a lemonade stand with brownies and cookies in front of our own police department and raised $600 for the fallen officers.
There is not enough we could ever do for our officers or fire fighters, but communities around Texas have been doing their best. Thank you to those who put their lives at risk every day, for your dedication, your courage, and your sacrifice.
