If You Love Your Mother, You Will Not Support Trump

The man. The myth. The misogynist.

Donald Trump loves women, right? He has had three wives, joint ownership of the Miss Universe Pageant (until recent controversy) and even said that his daughter is so beautiful that perhaps if he was not her father they would be dating. All jokes aside, though, during a CNN interview this past year Trump claimed to "cherish women" and will "be able to do things for women that no other candidate would be able to do." Is this really believable though? With a long history of blatant sexism and misogyny, Trump's words hold little weight in regard to women.

One prominent point Trump and his supporters like to make in defense of his actions is the naturally blunt manner he exudes. Although many find The Donald's lack of political correctness refreshing, it is just an excuse to make derogatory insults toward those who challenge him, especially women. However, these ongoing slews of chauvinistic comments toward women have had little repercussion in regard to his success on the campaign trail.

Trump is close to gripping the Republican nomination as he is the GOP front-runner. More than ever it is becoming apparent his name will be on the ticket this November. And, as not only a woman but a semi-decent human, this is absolutely baffling to me. How can we expect him to civilly interact with female leaders? Will he just call them nasty pigs when they do not comply with his requests? But, you know, who has the time to respect women, or really anyone for that matter, right?

To put into perspective Trump's views toward women, let’s just take a moment to read a quote from a 1991 interview with Esquire magazine: "You know, it doesn't really matter what [the media] writes as long as you've got a young and beautiful piece of ass." You may be thinking that his comment holds little value for it being 25 years old, but luckily The Donald did not give up the blatant sexism there. More recently Trump made a jab at potential Democratic nominee, Hillary Clinton, on Twitter writing "If Hillary Clinton can't satisfy her husband what makes her think she can satisfy America?" And let’s not forget the time he told a contestant on "The Apprentice" it would be a pretty sight to see her down on her knees. The list of Trump’s disgusting and ignorant comments could go on and on.

Clearly, Trump believes that women are nothing more than objects of sex; all vagina and no brain. Women to him are just a piece of arm candy and someone who can feed his repulsive sexual appetite. Trump’s comments toward women represent a backward, hyper-masculine way of thinking that is on par with a caveman. It is about time that everyone, men and women alike, stop allowing individuals like Trump to look at women like they are not equals. And yet there are people who are voting for him?

To any man who supports Trump reading this, how would you feel if Donald was making such remarks toward your mother, sister, wife, daughter? It becomes much less comical and far more disgusting. And to any woman reading this that supports Trump, what if he said this about you? We all deserve better.

Although I cannot tell you who to vote for, I think I have made it very clear who not to vote for.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
