Why I Love Medford/Medford Lakes

Going to college up in North Jersey has made me realize how much I actually adore my hometown. I grew up in Medford, New Jersey, which is located in Burlington County. I have been counting down the days until I'm back in Medford/Medford Lakes enjoying my summer. Here are just a few reasons why I will always love my hometown.

1. The lakes.

Medford & Medford Lakes is filled with lakes, the community is beautiful, friendly and has a calm environment. A family could walk around the block with their children and enjoy a beautiful day at the lake with their neighbors! All the lakes around the town make you feel as if you're on vacation every day during the summer.

2. The old charm.

Medford is a charming town filled with rich history. Take a walk down Main Street and some of the other roads around there, you'll find a lot of old buildings, each with a story to tell.

3. Traditions.

The Medford Lakes canoe carnival is one of the best traditions around. There is so much creativity flowing on this lake and summer 2016 will be the 85th year for it! The canoes are insane; each one is breathtaking.

4. The Halloween parade.

No matter your age, the Halloween parade is a fun event to go to and see all the joy on the children's faces, as well as the people in the parade!

5. The local businesses!

The entire community has amazing support for all the local shops around Medford. Local businesses in our town become successful with the entire communities support!

6. Kids riding their bikes all over town.

Medford and Medford Lakes are safe enough for the kids to ride their bikes all over town. Kids in Medford Lakes actually ride their bikes to school on a daily basis when it's nice out! It's always great to see them being active.

9. The Pop Shop!

Ever since The Pop Shop came to town, Main Street became more lively. It's such a colorful building and a kid friendly place right down town! Plus they have many, many grilled cheese options. Who doesn't love grilled cheese?

8. Main Street.

Main Street is beautiful, peaceful and clean. When ever it's a nice day outside, you will always see people enjoying their day walking down Main Street. I personally love going into all of the shops and look around in them.

Medford/Medford Lakes will always hold a place in my heart. There's not an overwhelming amount of people like there is in North Jersey. The town is charming and the residents are kind and always helpful. I have one more month until I start my food shopping at Murphy's again...and hopefully getting "the spot."

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
