A Love Letter To Whataburger

Dear Whataburger,

I remember it like it was yesterday-- the first time my eyes locked on that back-lit menu, lingering on the beloved honey butter chicken biscuit. I knew at that very moment, my life had been changed for the better. As I walked towards the woman dressed in a khaki button down and a black headset, I mentally prepared myself for the experience to follow. When she asked, "Would you like extra honey butter on that?" my heart skipped a beat, maybe two.

Since that life-changing day, I've caught myself daydreaming of patty melts, chocolate shakes, and most especially, honey butter chicken biscuits. Visions of french fries dance in my head each night, as I try to string together all of my kept Whataburger numbers into a strand of Christmas lights. My parents tell me I'm in too deep, that nothing lasts forever, but I know that these feelings are true.

On every special occasion, or lonely night, my friends and I find enough money to make the trek to our second home. I find joy in driving miles --62 miles, to be exact-- just to see the glow of the orange "W," welcoming me back with open arms. With each anticipated return, I can always expect to make new friends who share my love and devotion to Whataburger's many treasures. Nothing brings people together like a side of creamy pepper sauce.

Sometimes, I wonder how different my life would be if Whataburger was closer to me. Every meal is worth the hour-long drive, but what if I could drop by and see my significant other on my way to work? Or right after class?

They say that distance makes the heart grow fonder, and that if you truly love something, sometimes you have to let it go. I hold those words of wisdom close to my heart, and I cherish all of the memories made in a restaurant that stays open 24 hours a day. I don't have to watch a Nicholas Sparks movie to experience true love; all I need is to hold onto each receipt, and to remember the friendly faces holding trays of fast food heaven.

Whataburger, thank you for every high-calorie menu item, and for showing me a love I never thought I could feel.

Sincerely,

Your Most Loyal Custmer

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
