A Love Letter To My Sorority

I'm still wondering how I made it in...

A Love Letter To My Sorority
Becca Nagy

Dear Delta Zeta,

You freaking rock and I feel like it’s time you all got some recognition for how awesome you are. Although I have only been officially a part of the chapter for a short period of time, it feels like I have known some of the women forever. Thank you for giving me some amazing best friends, a Big to help me keep it all together, and an entire chapter of kick-a** women to look up to.

Everyone told me that I wouldn’t really find my friend group until spring quarter; that I would meet all of the girls and hang out with a few, but those friendships would soon fade. Today I look around at my friends and I can’t imagine that to be true. I spend every single day with a couple of my sisters, and I don’t think I could go a day without them.

They have proven time and time again that they are amazing friends, whether it was dropping everything to help me when I was in need or making me dinner so that I didn’t have to eat at the Stu. There hasn’t been a moment that we aren’t having a good time together, and it makes my life better. I can’t wait to move into a cozy apartment with them and snuggle for the rest of our lives.

DZ also provided me with the best Big on the planet. For those of you who don’t know, Urban Dictionary defines a Big as a mentor and friend given to a new member of a sorority that’ll be around, ideally, forever. Even though she freaked me out over the week of reveal and interrogated my new friends at a party, I love my Big to death. She has come to my rescue too many times to count, and I know I can turn to her with anything going on in my life. She has pushed me to get involved in leadership roles in our chapter and is constantly supporting every one of my new endeavors. She’s the kind of friend that’ll be sending pictures of herself trying new, crazy things all over the world until she’s 100 years old.

The DePaul chapter of DZ is full of inspiring women. When I hear about all the amazing things they are doing, I am so proud to even be in their presence. Maybe I’m a little bit biased, but I would personally bow down to any member of our eboard because they are just that amazing. We had the most Rho Gammas this past year, we had a large list of at least 20 women that made the deans list last quarter, and we continue to be involved in not only the DePaul community, but in the Chicago community as well. Most of the older girls have internships or jobs, and still devote themselves to our sisterhood. A lot of women in our chapter have completed or currently are enrolled in a study-abroad program. You guys rock, seriously.

So this is my love letter to my sorority. Every single woman in our chapter is to die for, and I really don’t know why they let me tag along. Nevertheless, I can’t wait to see what this next year brings for the chapter as we continue to grow. And as for any DZ reading this right now...I'm probably obsessed with you and I love. Okay sorry, I’m done.

Love Always,

Becca

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

The Importance Of Being A Good Person

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
