Oh music, how I love you! I know most people say they do, but I love you more! You have always been there to support me whenever I was down, and you always said the right things when life was good. There was always a song, genre, or artist to explain something when I couldn’t. And every memory I have in my life has a song attached to it in some way. Now my love for you is borderline crazy and some might say it’s obsessive. I won’t go anywhere without my headphones or a radio playing. But why go through life quiet? If I had the opportunity to work making music every day I know that I could be content.
My love for you started early in my life. With a mom as a piano teacher there were always melodies flowing through the house. And actually learning how to play and read music is a feeling that not many people get to experience. The accomplishment you feel when you master a song is just so rewarding. As I got older I got more involved. And although I don’t like to admit it I was in the band. But being in the band was something that taught me so much. I learned about harmonies with different instruments and how one measure can define a song. It also taught me the importance of a group. Although solos sound nice, a full orchestra sounds better. I wasn’t the best member, but that didn’t mean I didn’t appreciate it just as much. Now being in band meant I was introduced to a completely different type of music. Most people I know enjoy the hits that are played on the radio. But, some of my favorite music will always be from an orchestra. The most famous soundtracks from movies are what define my adolescence.
Now that I’m in college it’s hard to find outlets to pursue you. I have to set time aside to make sure that I’m keeping up with practice. I’ll always feel like I’m neglecting you. I will always feel like there are so many songs I have yet to listen to. The feeling that there is so much to this world that I’m missing out on is overwhelming. I love all genres and want to experience as much of them as I can.
I want to thank you so much for what you have given me. You are able to explain everything when words can’t. You’re able to inspire people, make people feel, bring people together, and most importantly, sometimes you're the only thing people have. You are able to give hope to people when they feel like they have nothing. One lyric can change a person’s life.
I will always be grateful for what you’ve done in my life. You’ve given me opportunities that people dream of. And what's more, you’ve brought me together with people who appreciate you just as much. But most importantly whenever I feel like I’m all alone, you’re always there. You’re my most reliable friend and always will be.
