My Love Letter to the E Bus

Dear E Bus,

I truly don't think you get enough credit for all you do. Maybe it's because you cater to the homies that live on campus full-time or perhaps because you don't come around as often as the A bus, but man... I love you. I don't know what I love more. The eclectic drivers that play wonderful music on every route (I'm looking at you driver who played Hamilton that one time. I haven't forgotten). Or, maybe it's just how convenient your stops are. Or better yet, maybe it's because you're rarely over crowded. Sure, on a Tuesday at 2 pm it's a little crazy on the E bus. But, for the most part, I know I can always rely on you for anything. When I was a Freshman, you helped me get from Spruce to Collins when everyone I loved was on that side of campus. Now, as a Junior, I rely on you to make sure I don't have an excuse to miss my classes in Balentine. It is wonderful to have such a reliable way to get around campus. Thanks for always being there when I leave the IMU with 45 pounds worth of textbooks and when I desperately need to get to Kirkwood. I am so glad you've got my back.

I don't know if you remember this or not but a couple of years ago, I got stuck on the E bus during a shift change. It was awkward and a little scary but I knew you'd keep me safe. Instead of leaving me out to dry, you let me chill until we got back on the route.

Another thing I absolutely love about the E bus is the random assortment of people. The A bus is almost exclusively Upperclassmen who live off campus and the B bus is basically just a bunch of Foster residents that want to go to the Library. No, the E bus is diverse and lively. There are the freshmen from Spruce and Collins, the Upperclassmen from Union Street, the Grad Students from all the apartments, and the occasional professor. The diversity on the E bus is astounding. And to be honest, it's a part of the experience that is riding the E bus.

I have loved the E bus since Freshman year. It was the first bus route I figured out and the only bus I consistently ride. It doesn't cater to one type of person, unlike the other buses, and it takes me everywhere I need to go on campus. I wish you got more love. I wish people appreciated everything you do for IU. I wish people understood my love. In a lot of ways, I wouldn't have survived college without you and I hope you know that. You have saved so many late mornings and stressful afternoons. I am sorry I am usually grumpy when I jump on the bus. But I promise your support is beyond important. Maybe someday, I won't have to go to Balentine so early in the morning and I'll be able to give you the support you need. But until that day, keep on keeping on E bus. I appreciate everything you do.

Wheels out,

Your Favorite Rider

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
