I often think about our world and how beautiful it truly could be. We already have amazing sights around the globe that people flock to and enjoy, now all we need are the amazing people.
Unfortunately, the amazing people are being taken over by uncontrollable amounts of rage, pain and aggression. We have the power to be something incredible. Something that everyone can look around at and be proud of. But in the last few months, it feels and looks like everyone is throwing away that opportunity.
I'm not saying there aren't things to be angry at or hurt by. Nothing is perfect and everything has room for improvement. It's a matter of how people are dealing with the hurt and anger. Real change won't happen with guns, violence and terrorism.
As a country, we're digging ourselves into the deepest hole imaginable. Americans are turning on other Americans because no one is willing to listen to each other. Back when people were immigrating to the United States of America, it was because we were the land of opportunity. We were considered a "melting pot" because, despite our differences, we melted together. Somehow along the way, we lost that and have become a salad bowl - meaning we don't blend together and we don't accept each others unique qualities anymore.
Being different is awesome because it would be too boring if we all had the same thoughts, opinions and personalities. It is 2016 people, we should all be equal. There is enough going on at a global scale, that for us to turn on each other is foolish. We need to be united (which according to our country's name, we are... but no one can tell), to take on the global issues as one unit.
As a globe, these senseless acts of violence that are happening more and more frequently, need to stop. I know me saying that doesn't really mean much or carry any weight, but it's the truth. The best part about having different cultures and religions is that we all get to choose who we want to be and what we want to believe in. It's OK to believe in something different than your best friend or the person sitting next to you on the bus. The matter of respecting other peoples beliefs is the worlds downfall. There's this idea that everyone has to believe in what you believe in. But that's not the case. We have the right to choose and we shouldn't be afraid to support our decisions.
At the end of the day, love is what will make the world go round, not hurt. We should bask in our differences not fight them.
