Let me start by saying summer is actually my favorite season. That being said, I think that most people dislike one piece or another that comes with each season. For example, I cannot stand how cold it is in the winter, snow -- good, cold -- bad! I also do not like when in the spring I need a jacket in the morning and a t-shirt or tank top in the afternoon. I love how the leaves change colors in the fall, but I hate having to rake up all of the ones that fall into my yard or scrape them off of my shoes.
Summer is meant to be a time of entertainment and joy. It is a lovely break from my nine months of classes and work. It is warm and usually sunny. That is fantastic! I could spend all day in the sun if it were not for a few things.
I love my flip flops and shorts just as much as the next girl, but I do not like the sunburn I get when I go outdoors. My sunburns usually turn into tans, which is nice, but I still have to endure the burn while it lasts -- hello aloe vera! I love the darker pigment of my skin that appears after the burn, but I almost believe that it would be better to be pale as a ghost than to have to suffer then the painful redness of being burnt.
I also do not like the bugs that think summer is a good time to feed on humans. I get super itchy when bitten by the blood-sucking vectors aka mosquitoes and thus it makes sense as to why I hate them so much. Picture this, you are sitting out in the sun having a great conversation with your friends and then something bites you. You look down and see mosquitos on your legs -- not exactly my idea of fun!
I have to spend some of my precious money to buy bug spray and sunscreen to protect myself from these horrors. As a college student, I see this as an issue because that money could have gone towards food, shampoo, folders, a fan, etc.
As previously mentioned, I love that summer is a break from classes. That is, until I realize that it also means spending three months with my family. That is not so bad unless you have, oh I don’t know, spent the last nine months living away from them. Going from dorm life to parents basement is not an easy transition as it means abiding by all of your parent's rules again because you are in their house.
I like that the sun goes down after 9 p.m., but I do not like that the sun comes back up at 5:30 a.m. Especially when my bedroom window is on the side where the sun comes up. It means the sun is going to light up my room fairly early and make it a lot harder to sleep in late. Being a teenager, it is safe to say that I like to stay up late and sleep in late. So yet again, I find the intensity of the sun not being my favorite thing.
All in all, summer is great. However, sunburns, mosquitoes, spending money and waking up early are not!
