Oh, Mother Nature, how you love to drive us all crazy with your constant mood swings. Down South, there are only two seasons: summer and winter. Granted, once in a while, spring and fall decided to show their face. Being from the South, we all know the love-hate relationship with the weather.
When we are having a long day on campus or just need a pick me up, the weather on a good day is the perfect positive aspect to the day. Having a nice cool/warm day with bright sunshine can turn any day around. Getting to enjoy all the flowers and beautiful trees while going between classes is always a treat. On one of these perfect days, the famous squirrels come out to play, and that is always a plus.
During those transitions between seasons, the weather can be extremely wishy-washy. Flip flopping between rainy, clear, freezing and warm weather can take a toll on our allergies. There is always one or two times during the semester where just about everyone is somewhat sick. It maybe sinus infections, the flu, the common cold or even mono that plague our campuses. Let’s be honest, college is just one big room for germs to succeed.
We love the different seasons because every season has something exciting and big that comes with it. Summer means two months of no school and lots of time to tan. Fall brings back the beloved college football season and school, which means we get to be reunited with all of our college friends. Winter is all about Christmas and another needed month break. Spring holds the best week of the year: spring break.
The weather has an extreme hold on our moods. When it is rainy, all we want to do is curl up in bed and watch Netflix till we fall asleep. Chilly weather makes us want to stay in and drink hot cocoa or go out in play in the snow (well if that is a thing). Warm weather makes you want to get out and tan, go swimming, go on some fun adventure or eat some ice cream.
One nice thing about the weather is that sometimes we can get out of class due to the weather. Whether it is a stormy day or snow day (I mean for the Northerners), we are somewhat glad that we get to take the unexpected break.
At the end of the day, Mother Nature is a pretty cool gal; well, unless she is dropping a natural disaster on us. We are #blessed for the good weather days and sometimes even for the bad weather days.
