When Your Best Friend Acts Like a Mom and You Love It

If you don't have a mom as a best friend, I'm sorry, because it's the best thing ever. A mom as a best friend is someone you can always count on, who will hold you accountable, and unconditionally loves you. For all of you that know someone like this, you know these to a tee.

1. She always takes care of you and your friends.

Even on your worse nights: your sad nights, your happy nights, your sober nights and your drunk nights. You know she’s always there for you to cuddle with or for an immediate response to a text. And you know she doesn’t only care about her best friends, but everyone. She has the heart of an angel.

2. She is ALWAYS drinking caffeine.

Yes, I am normally drinking caffeine. But you never see her without it. She goes from coffee to soda to tea to more coffee. She gets everything done in her day, and with perseverance.

3. If she’s not drinking caffeine, she’s drinking an obscene amount of water.

She reminds you that it’s important to drink water, but don’t worry, the bottle is always reusable. Always keeping the environment in mind.

4. And speaking of water, she’s always giving you water.

At a basketball game, a party, or at dinner, she’s always looking out for you and making sure you’re hydrated. She offers to buy you water, to refill your water, or to go find someone to get you a cup of water. Thanks, mom!

5. She wears her retainers every night.

There’s nothing cuter than seeing her snuggled up in her PJs in bed, her retainers in, and reading a book (fine, or phone). Maybe a grandma, still a mom.

6. She uses her “favorite word” often.

And by favorite word, she announces it just so you don’t forget. Then she teaches it to you so that you can increase your vocabulary. Plethora: an excessive or large amount. Don’t worry mom, I will never miss it on a vocab test.

7. She wants to be a minivan mom.

And you can’t wait for it. Nothing will make you happier than seeing your best friend with her perfectness and her perfect children. (Let’s be real, I’ll probably jump in the car and act like one).

8. I can always count on her to help me find “future bae.”

And the best boy advice. She knows what I want before I do. She can literally read my mind and she always knows what is best for me. She says exactly what your mom would say, without judging you.

9. If you are at a party, she’s always down the hall looking out for you.

She makes sure you get home, but most importantly, makes sure you don’t look like an idiot the whole time. She helps you find your lost shoes or phone, and never laughs at you the next day for it.

10. And the next morning, she always texts you to make sure you’re alive.

That’s a true friend/mom alright.

I don’t know what I would do without a mom as my best friend. So thank you, to all you teenage “moms” out there!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
