I have five wonderful nephews and I love being their aunt. There are so many great things about being an aunt. As an aunt, you get to be the cool, fun one without all the effort of having to raise them yourself. I don’t plan on being a parent myself anytime soon, but I love being an aunt.
As an aunt you get to be a playmate for your nieces and nephews. You are their adult best friend. I do everything with my nephews, dance, make music, play ball, blow bubbles, build block towers, play cars and trains, you name it. That is the job description, play, play, and play some more. And their parents will love you for keeping their kids occupied. Sometimes you may have to babysit them or make them food, but since you don’t have to do it all the time, it’s actually fun.
As an Aunt you also get to teach them some cool things, you can teach them cool tricks, how to fist pump and give high-fives, new dance moves, cool new words, etc. You are their role model, one of the people they look up to and learn from.
Another very important job you will have as an aunt is spoiling them. I love buying my nephews gifts. Kids are the best to give gifts to because they get so excited. They love new toys and things and that someone thought of them. Also, as an aunt it’s my job to get the fun things, buy them ice cream and cool toys, things that their parents or grandparents might not get them. And they will love you for it.
Being an aunt is also awesome because the kids will rarely have a reason to dislike you. Yeah, they might get annoyed with their parents who have to tell them no, but it’s all love for the aunts. We get lots of hugs and kisses to show for it.
One thing you must remember as an aunt is to always be cool, never old and boring, and even if you are old, just keep being fun and cool. You don’t have to be perfect for them to love you, kids actually tend to like the imperfect ones more. All you have to do is be their fun, awesome, loving aunt.
Being an aunt is cool because you will be around their whole lives to have fun with and encourage them and maybe embarrass them a little too. You will always be there to give them a hug or cheer them on. I love being an aunt and I look forward to all the memories I will make with my nephews. I always think of them and I always look forward to visiting them again.
I don’t know if I will have kids of my own or not, but being an aunt is good enough for me I’m free to just have fun with them and spoil them as much as I can.
