From Miss Ollie to free stuff.

Choosing a college to go to was one of the hardest things for me to decide. There were so many options and picking the right one is critical to your future career. When I took a campus tour of Avila, I knew it was the right place for me. This proved to be right, and here are some of the reasons I love Avila University.

Diversity

Avila has so many different ethnicities and cultures. I also love that people come from all around the world. It gives the students the opportunity to learn about so many different cultures. I have made friends from many different countries and lots of different states.

Free Tutoring

It is an amazing bonus to be able to get free tutoring when struggling with a class. I also found that the teachers here will help you after class if you just ask, they really do care about teaching you the material and want you to learn.

All the Free Giveaways

Almost every day Avila is giving away free things. Back packs, candy, soda, gift cards, and also discounted coupons to sporting KC games and a lot more. They really do give back to the students. The free shows are nice also, such as the magic shows and the hypnotist.

Miss Ollie

Miss ollie is the most amazing woman. She makes my day every time I go to the cafeteria. She goes out of her way to remember every students name, and she always has a huge smile on her face. She says the most positive things and is very supportive of all the students.

Nurse Carol

Nurse Carol is so sweet and always so helpful when visiting. She truly cares about all the students and helps in so many ways. She goes out of her way to help students, whether it be the flu or simply homesickness she is there to help.

Travel Courses

I love that the school offers the option to take courses that allow you to travel to other countries. Not everyone gets that kind of opportunity in life.

Free Counseling

Sometimes we just need someone to talk to, who won't judge us and will just listen. Avila gives us this for free. It can be hard to move away from home and school can be stressful.

Stress Relief Week

My favorite part of finals week is all the things Avila provides to help reduce stress. Free massages, late night breakfast, and much more.

Small Class Sizes

I love that this is a small school because I find it easier to learn in smaller classrooms that are not huge lecture rooms. It helps you make closer relationships with class mates as well as the teachers. I find that people get together for study groups and work together to study for classes because they are smaller.

Friendships

Avila had been amazing for me in the sense that I have made some really good friendships. I am about to start the nursing program, and I feel that I already have a lot of friends in the program because we all have been working together to achieve the same goals.

I am very happy that I chose Avila as the school to go to. It has provided me with so much and helped me grow into the person I am today.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
