She will never know how her words truly impacted me
as a 13 year old girl, my grandma, gave me something that has
stayed with me, her words lay in the fiber of who I am, and the lesson behind the words were to be seen in full view...today...when I looked into the face of my aunt and was reminded of grandmas' face...and I smiled as I remember hearing her say "Your neck, you have a beautiful neck..." and as a awkward looking teen, I took it, held it in my heart and said "Thank, you, grandma" but she can never know how those words, those simple words taught me about finding the BEAUTY in all things. The way she found beauty in my neck is the same way I look for the beauty in bad situation...hold fast to the overlooked places and look past what is normally considered beautiful. She never knew that the very neck she found beauty in, has been the catalysis of sounds that resemble striking matches, thru poetry, or lulled savage souls to sooth with my singing...maybe she did know, maybe she had an inkling of an idea that the neck she called beautiful...would be a clue to the mystery of my life...maybe just maybe...she will never know, but you will. I encourage you to find the beauty in something you find ugly today, it will forever change your life.
