I am a huge fan of both "Lord of the Rings" and "Harry Potter." Both series are great in their own rights. I could spend hours arguing whether Sirius Black's death was unnecessary or how Frodo wasn't as whiny in the books as he was in the movies. When it comes to the movies, I am a fan of both. The movies make both of the series comes to life in front of viewers' eyes. Many people argue over which series is better. As I said before, I have a special place in my heart for both series. While "Lord of the Rings" is ultimately my favorite series, "Harry Potter" follows close close behind. Here's a list of three categories in which each series wins.
1. Books
Both book series are great. If they weren't, we obviously wouldn't be talking about them right now. "Harry Potter" is obviously amazing. The characters are lovable, and the story is brilliant. The world that Rowling's created is absolutely amazing. The series has touched thousands of lives and has created a huge fanbase. All the books in the series are amazing, even though "Order of the Phoenix" is the least enjoyable book to me. As the series progresses, the novels obviously get darker and the characters mature greatly. "Lord of the Rings," however, is an absolutely amazing series. The world that Tolkien created is simply unbelievable. It's hard to imagine how much work went into thinking up such an amazing world full of unique creatures, history and mythology. While the books are harder to read and are at times dry, the literary value of them is undeniable.
2. Movies
Let's be honest, both movie series are fantastic. The "Harry Potter" movies were a lot of people's childhood. Like the books, they touched lots of people's lives. They also engaged people who didn't even read the books. The movies follow pretty closely to the books and are extremely enjoyable to watch. Like the "Harry Potter" movies, the "Lord of the Rings" movies engaged lots of people who hadn't read the books. While sometimes the movies dragged due to the excessive amount of walking, they followed the books extremely well (we aren't talking about "The Hobbit" here because those did not follow the book well at all). While both movie series are fantastic, "Lord of the Rings" wins this category, as well. The only reason that "Lord of the Rings" wins this category is because the movies followed so closely to the books. But I guess you can expect that considering all of the movies are extremely long, right?
Both series are fantastic and deserve all the recognition they receive. "Lord of the Rings" just beats "Harry Potter" by just a little bit. If you are one of those people who haven't read or seen either series, you need to explore both because they are seriously the best.
