Freshman year was truly an interesting time in my life. In the span of a couple months, I became a young adult who was responsible for making numerous decisions every day. I chose when, where and what to eat, how to study, and I also chose the friends that I wanted to hang out with. I chose if I wanted to go to class or not, and I also discussed my work and grades with my professors on my own. I started to make my first real steps into adulthood, as well as decide the career that I would like to have in the future. Freshman year was a fascinating time for me, and there were various aspects of it that made it even more exciting for me.
1. The dorms. The dorms were designed in a way that always allowed socializing and making new friends. I could find like-minded people in either the same dorm as me, or a couple of floors away.
2. The people that I met. I met a wide variety of people during my freshman year, all who managed to contribute a lot to my experience at TCNJ. Whether it was discussing various types of music, playing Super Smash Bros in someone's dorm room or just chatting at lunch, I met a variety of people that played a part in shaping who I was, and what I do today.
3. My roommate. I was sharing a room with a complete stranger for the first time, and it was definitely an interesting experience for me. Not only did I have to consider how my actions would affect someone else, but I also learned how to live with someone effectively. It taught me a lot about respecting others' differences, adjusting your habits to live comfortably, and developing relationships with new types of people.
4. Typical college craziness. Unsurprisingly, there was a good amount of chaos and interesting incidents during my freshman year of college. The typical college craziness contributed to bizarre, but memorable moments that I will never forget. My floormates, in particular, participated in moments that were funny and awesome all at once.
5. My classes. The classes that I took completely changed how I approached learning and getting grades. Classes in my freshman year required a substantial amount of effort and perseverance to pass, and they led to me to do the most that I could to keep my grades up. My classes taught me the value of hard work, to seek help when I need it, and to be able to successfully balance work from an array of subjects.
6. The overall experience of college. My freshman year wasn't always amazing, but it was undeniably a fascinating part of my life. Freshman year was where I was exposed to things that I never before encountered, and I learned a little bit about myself during that time. I grew as a person, and I was able to accomplish far more than I ever thought I could.
