Look Me In The Eyes

You may do as you wish, but know this.

Look Me In The Eyes
WSVX

Hello,

If you are a person planning on voting for Trump, this message is for you.

I am unique.

I am diverse.

However, I am one of the large number of people within the United States that have been the target of one of Donald Trump's verbal remarks.

I would like to explain to you what the relationship between you and I is due to your support of Trump, as if you understand your candidates remarks from someone in your life, it might help you better understand.

First of all, I want you to know that I do not hate you. You are a part of my life, for better or for worse.

Trump has created a safe space for bigotry to flourish in this country. He has used dangerous rhetoric that has affected the LGBT Community, Women, Hispanics/Latinos, Muslims, and many more. He has said these things not as a "mistake" that occurred once in his past speeches, he has said these things because he truly believed it to be OK to say these things. He has thought it OK to tell someone that you could get women by "grabbing them by the p***y." He has thought it OK to sexually assault. He has thought it OK to create the most anti-LGBT campaign in recent presidential race history. He has created a plan to support the appointment of anti-LGBT supreme court judges. He has thought it OK to call for a system to ban a group of people from the US based on something as trivial as a religion. He has thought it OK to reinstitute the recording and tracking of people who have every right to be American as you or I. He has thought it OK to ridicule disabled peoples. He has thought it OK to refer to people of color fighting for the right to live as "thugs."

The list goes on and on, but every two days there seems something new that he has said towards a group of typically minority peoples. During this time of high racial tension and rising amounts of tension within other minority sectors, Donald Trump has chosen to spew inflammatory statements in the face of already complicated events. He has chosen to drop bombs upon areas that are already within conflict. You may say that words are just words, but it those same words that encourage people to act out. Encourage people to discriminate. Encourage people to stay stuck in their bigoted mindsets. Give them validation in their prejudice. This is unforgivable and deplorable.

I understand that you have found a certain reasoning to support Trump. I don't criticize your ability to make judgment and to express your opinion. I respect your freedom of speech. I am allowed to disagree, and I am allowed through that same freedom of speech to outwardly express my utter feeling of disgust at your candidate, and I am disappointed in you.

By choosing to support Donald Trump, you have actively chosen to tell me that I am lesser than you. You have chosen to align yourself with someone who wants to consecrate the "Heterosexual Christian White Man" above all. You may have your thoughts as to otherwise, but by your continuous support of your "speaks his mind" or "rowdy, but trustworthy" candidate, you choose to support the rhetoric that he produces. You help pay for his late night twitter rants to attack groups of people or call women fat and disgusting. You have shown him support after he apologized in the most lackluster manner about how he described and detailed how he can sexually assault a woman without repercussions. You have shown him love when he nominates one of the most outwardly anti-LGBT politicians in the country and you have beatified Trump and the Republican Party for creating the most anti-LGBT platform in party history.

You have bolstered every single damn depraved thing that man has mentioned upon that television or computer screen.

I don't have to sit here and question your freedom to make your choice and to speak, but I do have a request for you.

Look me in the eyes when you tell me you're voting for Donald Trump.

Look me in the eyes when you tell me I don't matter as much as you do.

Look me in the eyes when you tell me that the only deserving members of society must be heterosexual. Must be white. Must be a man. Must be Christian. Must be exactly like you.

Look me in the eyes when you tell me that my life is inherently less valuable than yours.

Look me in the eyes when you condemn me.

I need you to look me in the eyes as you vote to move the country in a direction that has no room for me.

Tell me that you think "his plans could really help America" when they'd only help you.

Tell me that you "like his charisma and hatred of political correction".

Tell me that you're the only one that matters this year.

You will do what you want to do in the end, but please —

Look me in the eyes when you tell me you're voting for Donald Trump.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
