What your first love is like.

A Look At First Love
Sharon Smith

A first love is a special thing. It’s exciting because you don’t really know what to expect. It’s thrilling because it’s with someone new and overall it’s an experience - it’s something everyone goes through.

Imagine meeting someone new, someone who doesn’t know the slightest about you. But, you have the opportunity to express yourself and talk about yourself to them. You’re giving them the chance to see you for who you are. The best part is, you get to learn about them. You get to hear about someone else's life. You get to know their hobbies, likes/dislikes, what makes them tick. It’s so amazing because once you to start to click, that person trusts you with everything and you do the same.

It’s a bit weird at first because you’ve never experienced this before. Sure, you’ve made new friends, but never had the thought of a real relationship come into play. You start to develop these weird feelings for them that you’ve never felt before. Making you want to talk to them 24/7 and wanting to know every last bit of information about their lives. You want to soak up every last bit of them.

Your life starts to surround around them. You constantly want to spend time with them, experience new things together and make memories with them. Why? They’re special to you. You don’t understand exactly why at first, but they are.

Eventually, they start to become your other half. They know everything about you. They know when you’re upset from a single look, they know what show you’re watching, they know what you do on Thursday nights. They start to notice even the littlest things about you.

To me, that’s an amazing thing. It’s indescribable. Always knowing that there is someone who cares deeply, someone who would do anything for you, someone who would do anything just to see a smile on your face. Someone who you can call in the middle of the night because you just want to talk and doesn’t get mad. They are someone you know you can lean on constantly. They’re your best friend.

That’s your first love. It’s an experience, and it helps show what you really want for your other half. You learn from them, experience new things, learn what qualities you like and dislike. And if you’re lucky enough and the stars align, your first love could be your forever love. Everyone experiences it, some of us get hurt, but learn and move on. It’s something everyone has stories about, and shares with others. Love is an amazing, sometimes horrible, but overall great experience. It’s a part of life, and if we all play our cards right, we will all find it.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
