Long Island is one of the best places to be in the summer. There is so much to do when the weather is beautiful and the beaches are only minutes away. Classes are over, stress is gone and it's all about living easy. Long Island is and always will be my home, but I truly appreciate it more then ever in the summer. Having lived on Long Island my whole life, I am educated on the best places to spend your summer.

1. The Nautical Mile

Freeport Long Island has everything--restaurants, bars, party boats, fishing boats and silent clubs--down on the Nautical Mile. It's beautifully surrounded by the water, most restaurants having a beautiful scenic view. You can get there by boat or car, your choice. Good for all ages but great for a Sunday Fun Day.

2. Long Beach

The famous Long Beach Boardwalk is the best for a late night/early morning run. Long Beach is full of bars, hotels, shops and restaurants. You can find the party scene any day of the week in the summer, the relaxation scene or even something to fill your sweet tooth. The best part of Long Beach is its beautiful beach that is walking distance from everywhere you go.

3. Port Jefferson

I have the pleasure of being ten minutes from Port Jeff at my university. It is well known for its delicious cuisine, cute shops, Port Jeff steamboat and Bridgeport ferry, as well as their night life. My personal favorite is the Port Jefferson Frigate, which is a candy store and ice cream/gelato/frozen yogurt place all in one.

4. The Hamptons

The Hamptons is a plethora of seaside communities that people mainly in New York City travel to for the summer. They are known for their high-end restaurants, designer boutiques, lavish beaches and premier party places.

5. Rockville Centre

Rockville Centre is located relatively close to the Manhattan by train. It has many delectable restaurants. It is well known for its bars all being within close vicinity of each other. It has shops and boutiques as well hotels and quaint cafes, and is located close to Long Beach as well as the city.

6. Greenport

Village of Greenport is located on the Northfork Long Island. It is also located on the bay as well as the ocean. It is well known for its vineyards and its rich history. There are plenty of restaurants with fresh local seafood.

7. Fire Island

Last but not least, my favorite place of all time: Fire Island. This is my happy place; I highly suggest for any person who has not gone. You are truly missing out on one of the best places on Long Island. Every time you go it's like a mini vacation whether you take the ferry or hop on your boat and drive over. There are so many beach-themed shops, pizza places, ice cream shops, very fresh seafood restaurants and, above all, the most beautiful beach. There are also so many fun places and things to check out, whether it be visiting the lighthouse, exploring in the Sunken Forest or partying it up in Ocean Beach. Nothing truly compares to Fire Island. One weekend just isn't enough time there, believe me.

I hope you check out some of these places this summer and enjoy them as much as I do! You can never get bored on Long Island in the summertime.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
