Most people would think that long distance friendships are difficult and not always worth your time. I, however, found that one of my closest friendships is with a person that lives 600 miles away from me. We've been friends since kindergarten and even though he moved away after our high school graduation, we've never had a closer friendship!
Sure, not seeing your friend all the time may be upsetting and hard to handle. Especially when you used to see that person almost every day and all you really need is a big hug from him or her. But there are many ways to keep in touch such as video chatting and phone calls. If this was 2004, my phone bill would be through the roof for how late my friend and I stay up talking on the phone! (Thank god for unlimited calling!)
When you're really close with someone, distance doesn't necessarily matter. My friend knows that whenever he needs me, I'm only a phone call away and I know it's the same for me. We don't talk every single day but we don't really have to. Whenever we talk to each other, we have really long conversations about how our week is going or how it went, what we've both been up to, which significant other is present or not present in our lives, etc.
Having a long distance friend means you have a place to vacation to (and a free place to stay!). If your friend lives far away, make a road trip out of it! Grab some other mutual friends, make an amazing playlist and drive to meet up with your friend. It'll definitely be a trip to remember!
Distance doesn't mean the friendship is over, if anything, distance makes you closer. I think the constant feeling of missing your friend makes it easier to keep in touch with him or her. A simple text saying, "I miss you! How have you been?" goes a long way and can make a person feel pretty special and I'm sure that person will end up keeping in touch with you too.
So basically, cherish your long distance friends and the distance won't seem as far!
