Having my best friend move away was the hardest part of my highschool experience. We just clicked and she and I were inseparable, until she left the summer before our junior year. We went to school in California and she moved all the way to London.

I had never had a friend move away before and I was scared we wouldn't keep in touch but luckily I was wrong!

To this day we've stayed best friends and we talk every single day despite only seeing each other in person once a year.

I've had many people ask me about it since it can be extremely difficult to stay in contact with friends who have moved away.

Here are 3 simple tricks that have helped us stay in contact for the past 4 years:

1. Talk every day!

Even if you're just saying "hi" or "good morning", make the active effort to reach out once every single day. It doesn't have to be a long conversation or even a deep one, but taking the time to do this simple thing goes a long way.

2. It’s all in the details.

When you guys do have time to have long conversations, it's important to talk about the details. Since you guys can't hang out every day anymore, it's necessary to keep them updated on the small moments in your life. Be sure to go into detail and clearly explain different situations that they otherwise wouldn't know.

3. Go out of your way to see each other when possible.

Even if it takes three different trains and two separate Ubers, meet up in person!! There's nothing like seeing your best friend again after it's been so long. Traveling can be hard, but trust me, it's all worth it. Go out of your way to make sure you can have those precious in real life moments whenever you can.

Distance is hard, but it shouldn't prevent you from living your best life with your best friend by your side.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
