I’m writing this Sunday morning which is the technically the fourth and final day of the Lollapalooza music festival. So, it’s technically not over. But since it is four days long this year, these past three days have been eventful enough for me to share with all of you.
Recap: Food
This is my second Lolla experience so I had an idea of what to expect from the get-go. A lot of people have mixed feelings on the festival, but I love it because it captures all my favorite things: food, music and a beautiful city. The eats at music festivals are unlike anything else. My friends and I have essentially become spokespeople for a food truck posted in front of Grant Park that sells donuts and iced coffee. It’s called Beaver’s. Their donuts are amazing. 10/10. But also the food stands inside the park itself are unreal. Let’s just say I had a religious experience involving truffle fries.
Recap: Music
Personally, my friends and I haven’t encountered an act that we didn’t enjoy. When the lineup was announced, I remembered hearing some concerns about how the lineup could’ve been “better.” But I never saw an issue with it because I thought there were some heavy hitters that would put on an awesome show. The real MVP’s for me the past three days have been The 1975, J. Cole, Future (aka my baby), and of course, The Red Hot Chili Peppers. The Red Hot Chili Peppers take the entire cake though because they were absolutely unreal. For men their age to still be performing so amazingly and still be doing what they love is inspiring. And I may or may not have teared up while they performed Under The Bridge.
Recap: The City
Chicago is an unbelievable city. That’s all that needs to be said.
Experience: Train Ride Escapades
Last year, I stayed with my friend who lives in an apartment in Lincoln Park so the train rides into downtown were short and uneventful. But this year, I’m staying with my friend Lindsey who lives in the North Shore suburbs of Chicago and let’s just say the train rides have been wild. The train rides going into the city are filled with young kids looking to party. Which is totally fine, but I’m talking like junior-year-of-high-school young. These kids were being dropped off at the train station by their mothers. Once you got on, you literally could have thought this train was going to Las Vegas. Kids were throwing back shots, chugging Four Lokos (which I literally did not know were still a thing), and shotgunning beers. The best part was that while they were getting drunk, they would chant their high school football cheers. Unreal.
Overall, Lollapalooza is always a good idea. Chicago is always a good idea. And spending time with those you love is always a good idea. I give 2016 Lollapalooza five stars, two thumbs up, and 10/10 recommendation.
