Stop Using Your Zodiac Sign To Excuse Stupid Behavior

Yeah, the tattoos are cool... but that's about it.

We've all met them. That one person who says, "I'm this way because I'm a _________ (insert Zodiac sign here). Heck, maybe you are that person.

I have one word for you: STOP.

These overarching generalizations that make all of the Zodiac signs unique are simply anything but that. For example, if you search "Zodiac signs" on Google, this site comes up in the search results. When I did this, I got curious about my Zodiac sign, which is Libra.

This is what the page looks like.

Let's be clear that the first line is what made me scoff immediately. "Libra people tend to need balance in their lives..."

STOP! HOLD THE PRESSES RIGHT THERE.

The last time I checked, everyone needs balance in their lives "between work... and recreation," not just Libras. Finding a balance is the key to happiness in anyone's life, not just because your Zodiac sign is associated with balancing scales.

Then, as with any Zodiac inference, there is the dreaded overarching generalization of a character trait that is applied to a sign. In this case, Libras are classified as "charming and people like to be around them..." Seriously? I know a guy from my school who was born two days before I was (October 10th) and he is the most unlikeable, self-centered, anti-social person I know.

That's definitely not charming. But, I digress. Another false description above is that Libras "seem wishy-washy." NO. Being wishy-washy pisses me off and irritates me: I learned a long time ago, especially in the business world, decisions aren't always something that can be meditated on. You often have to go with your gut and make an immediate decision, and that's a quality I have embraced. Zodiac attributes to me smell like a steaming pile of wishy-washy...

Finally, to stick the nail in the coffin of Zodiac falseness, I tested a personal theory that Zodiac signs would contradict themselves somewhere in the world, and that there is no universally accepted truths about anyone based on when they were born.

I was right.

There is a contradiction I found about Libras about emotional confrontation.

This interpretation says Libras tend to be lazy and non-involved as to avoid stress or challenges. However...

...this interpretation states that Libras are patient and wonderful mediators. So, which is it, people of the internet?

I get it. "You're being too serious about this." But hear me out, please. I see people every day that make decisions based off of their astrological sign, especially when it comes to relationships with other people (sexual or not).

I don't like these Zodiac interpretations because so many people do not understand the concept of knowing your own identity. As adults, we are constantly developing new attitudes and beliefs towards the world around us, and it frustrates me when people behave a certain way because they believe they are predestined to behave as such due to something they saw about their Zodiac sign.

I'll get straight to the point here. Yes, it's cool to look at these things, and yes some of it may be true. But I've seen too many people obsess over their Zodiac sign and develop bad character traits because of something read that convinced them it was true. Almost anything about personality insights can be disproved with some research like I did above. So go find yourself and don't let the internet or some interpreter tell you who you are.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
