Everyone tells you not to live with your friends because you’ll end up hating each other. I say if you can live with your friends, you’ve found your soul mates for life. These are the people who will see you at your highs and your lows, and will be there for you through it all. They will see you at your best, when you are at the top of your game and ready to conquer the world. They will see you at your worst, when your day has been a rapid downhill straight to hell and you have no more cares left to give.
I consider myself fortunate enough to have found these people in my life. I currently live with a fantastic group of girls who have been there for me since my first semester of college, and I am finally lucky enough to live with them. Words cannot express how uplifting it is to come home at the end of a long day to a room full of personal cheerleaders. There is so much laughter, love, and support filling my room that I’m not quite sure how I will function without them next year.
As with anything though, the decision to live with my best friends has both its ups and downs. Not a day goes by without one of us asking, “Why did I ever agree to live with you fools?!” Living with these girls has been the best and worst decision I will ever make; here are 16 reasons I am fortunate and unfortunate in having my best friends as roommates.
Fortunately: You have double the wardrobe.
Unfortunately: Your clothes may go missing at random.
Fortunately: You have someone who will watch Netflix and Disney movies with you.
Unfortunately: You can never agree on what to watch.
Fortunately: There is someone willing to go out of their way to help you get back into the building when you have locked yourself out.
Unfortunately: There is someone locking you out on your balcony when you step outside to look at the sunset.
Fortunately: They will forgive all your embarrassing mistakes.
Unfortunately: They will never forget said embarrassing moments.
Fortunately: You have someone to ponder the mysteries of life with late at night.
Unfortunately: You may not get to sleep any time soon as you ponder if horses get songs stuck in their heads.
Fortunately: There is someone you can vent to who genuinely cares when you come home after a long day.
Unfortunately: There is usually someone bouncing around in circles of energy as you collapse on the couch after said day.
Fortunately: They understand you when you’re having moments of insanity and can help calm you down.
Unfortunately: There isn’t someone to stop these crazy moments from spiraling out of control once they join in.
Fortunately: There is someone to help proofread your homework before you submit it at the very last second.
Unfortunately: Your roommates are often the ones distracting you from doing your homework in the first place.
Fortunately: You can practice your presentations on your roommates before actually giving them.
Unfortunately: Your roommates decide to behave as the unruly children in class and will not quit yelling at you and throwing things.
Fortunately: You understand each other’s flaws and tolerate (love) one another anyway.
Unfortunately: You understand each other’s flaws and completely call one another out when one aspect of your personality is showing too strongly.
Fortunately: You have so many inside jokes and roommate moments that all you need is a single phrase for all of you to be dying of laughter.
Unfortunately: No one else gets it, so they all think you’re crazy when you start rolling on the floor.
Fortunately: You all agree to watch scary movies on Halloween, so you don’t have to be terrified on your own.
Unfortunately: When the clock strikes midnight on November 1st, the Christmas carols begin and there is nowhere to escape to.
Fortunately: There's never a dull moment; even when there is nothing to do, there is someone to do nothing with you.
Unfortunately: There's always something going on; even when you want to be bored, your roommates won't allow it.
Fortunately: You have no secrets or boundaries.
Unfortunately: You have no secrets or boundaries.
