When I think about life, I tend to think about how much of it I have left. College, graduate school, getting married, having kids. I am constantly thinking that all this will come and that there will always be tomorrow. Recently, I have gained a new perspective on this, and I began to think, what if there isn't tomorrow? I don't think I have ever given this question serious thought, at least not on a day-to-day basis.
Life continues to go on and we stay busy with priorities, but it is often a good idea to take a step back and count all your many blessings. It's sad that it takes tragic events for us to think about life in this way. Life happens, and just like that, it can be changed forever.
But we are all in this together, and even though we may not be able to save lives, we can make sure that we make ours count even more, because we only get one. As long or short as it may be, it's the only one we get, and I think we should live each day to the fullest. Life is short. Life is also very unpredictable. You never know what it can throw to you.
That being said, what do you want to do with life?
I made a list of things to do every day that will allow you to live each day to its fullest potential. I am following Ben Rector's advice and living each day like the world is going to end.
1. Worry about only what is worth worrying about.
We spend so much of our lives worrying about what is not important and never realize it until time is running out. If I live each day with the thought of the world ending, certain things become more important.
2. Dance like no one is watching.
Sing like no one is listening too. Do not care what others think about you. Our dedication to pleasing others seriously confuses our sense of purpose in life. Just be yourself.
3. Laugh until you cry.
Be happy. Life is too short to be anything but happy. Make a conscious effort to look for the positive in every situation.
4. Call everyone you love and tell them how you feel.
Times moves too fast, and people can go in and out of your life in the blink of an eye. Never miss an opportunity to tell someone how much you love them.
5. Count your blessings.
Be grateful for everything. Count your blessings instead of your problems.
A quote to live by is, "Somebody should tell us right at the start of our lives that we are dying. Then we might live life to the limit, every minute of every day. Do it! Whatever you want to do, do it now! There are only so many tomorrows." Live each day like it is your last, because each day is something to be thankful for.
