Is Living An Hour Away, Convenient?

The road to success is full of traffic, literally and figuratively.

Is Living An Hour Away, Convenient?
North Mobile Post

When I was making the big decision to attend college last year, I was terrified. I was scared at the idea of having all of this responsibility put on my shoulders, and even more scared of leaving home. That is, until, I started looking more into attending The University of South Alabama. Everything I read about it was positive, and it had great scholarship opportunities, plus it was only an hour away from my house. This meant I did not have to move away! I sent my application in, received my acceptance letter, and got my sights set on USA.

Once I was accepted, it was time to make it a reality as soon as August rolled around. My school day starts with waking up at 7:00 a.m. to have breakfast, get dressed, and get my books together for the day. I only give myself thirty minutes to do all of that because I like getting to sleep until seven, and I prefer to leave by 7:30. My earliest class does not start until 9:05, but I have to give myself extra time for events such as: traffic, parking troubles and did I mention TRAFFIC!? One morning, I was stuck in traffic for an hour and a half, and missed my first class entirely. Days like that definitely try my patience, as I am already a nervous enough person when it comes to arriving on time. That said, on days when traffic is nearly nonexistent, I make it to school somewhere between 8:30 and 8:40. These extra minutes give me extra time to find a parking spot and gather my things to get to class.

After my first class ends, I have over two hours before the next one starts, some people would just go home and relax during this space, but some people do not live an hour away. I can usually be spotted in the student center scrolling through social media on my cell phone or maybe working on homework, if I have any. Once the time arrives for me to get to class, I gather my things again and leave. After my last class of the day, I am excited to be done, but also know I have an hour until I can get home and relax. It is particularly inconvenient to deal with traffic at this part of my day, because I just want to get home and be done for the day. However, there are some days, in which, I have no traffic and it is smooth sailing all the way home.

With commuting there are several pros and cons, and I only touched on a few of them, but it is nice to get to go home to sleep in my bed, see my family and even enjoying a home cooked meal is a luxury. Some days of being a commuter are better than others, but I am still content with my decision to live at home.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
