Live In The Moment

Put the phones away

Live In The Moment

With Snapchat, Instagram, and Facebook always on our minds, it can sometimes be hard to live life. When we are going about our daily lives, we are constantly thinking of something we could post about on social media or wanting to check if our favorite celebrity is up to, but by forgetting to truly live our lives, we are missing some of life’s most precious moments.

I absolutely love to travel. My favorite destinations are those where I can climb to a quiet spot in nature and look out on a breathtaking view. When I find the perfect spot I take out my phone and try to take an "artsy" pic so everyone else can see how much I am enjoying myself. The thing I need to remember is to put the phone away and actually see the view I looked to find (because let’s face it, no picture I take can ever do it justice). Although stopping to take a picture is never a bad way to keep the memory, I see no point in only seeing an amazing view through my phone’s screen when it is right in front of me.

Not only am I always on my phone for the pictures, but I am ALWAYS ON MY PHONE. While sitting around the table with my family, watching a movie with my friends, or riding the bus home from school, my phone seems to be in my hands. I like to think I’m not addicted to it, but when I don’t have it, I feel like I need it. When I do put my phone away and look around, I see that everyone else has the same problem of being attached to their phones. Being in a situation where I feel alone or uncomfortable, I check my phone. After leaving my phone alone during work or class, I immediately pick it up when I can. I have become dependent on having this little device in my hands.

The saying “live in the moment” is pretty well-known, yet it is something we definitely seem to forget it in today’s age. Our society needs to remember to put our phones away (by permanently breaking our obsessive attachments to them) and really take in life’s most precious moments. So next family vacation, concert with friends, or walk in the park, put the phone away, enjoy yourself and your company and look at how beautiful the world around you can actually be.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
