I Live In California And I Don't Like Avocados

For some reason, it’s a stereotype that Californians love avocados. While the general population loves the fruit, I do not. In fact, I strongly dislike it. For some reason in California, every food revolves around avocados. No matter what the food is, Californians always find a way to incorporate avocados, and I always have to awkwardly ask the waiter to leave them out. There are avocados on pizza, avocados in salads, and even avocados in brownies. When will the avocado take over end?

I’m fed up with being frowned upon for disliking avocado. I’ve tried it a multitude of times and I really can’t get myself to like it! People are genuinely shocked when I turn down chips and guacamole or even a sandwich with avocado inside. Maybe I am not a fan of the texture or I just can’t get with the taste, but whatever it is, I am physically unable to hop on the avocado train. I could contribute my distaste for avocados to the fact that I wasn’t born in California, but is that really it? I guess I have no choice but to patiently wait for the avocado trend to pass in hopes that the next food fad is one that sparks my taste buds.

In my opinion, avocado is mushy and tasteless, but I feel like I’m offending avocado fans everywhere. I’ve never met anyone who only likes avocado a little bit. Avocado coinsurers love the fruit and are not afraid to show it. I’m almost envious of the passion that avocado lovers have for the food. With that being said, there are definitely some avocado pushers out there. These are the people that will not let it go that I dislike their favorite food. I truly respect their efforts, but no matter how much I try to, I can’t get myself to like avocado.

In the grand scheme of things, this is a petty problem. At the same time, it really isn’t. As someone who eats, like everybody else out there, avoiding avocado is becoming a bigger struggle each and every day. Avocado is finding itself into every food, especially here in California. After many attempts of trying to find the food enjoyable, I need to come to terms with my feelings toward the fruit. I don’t like avocado, and nothing will change my mind.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
