Following suit with last week's article, I'm going to continue to explore the amazing dining opportunities Cleveland has to offer. Just two miles East of Historic Ohio City lies another hot spot for Clevelanders known as Tremont. This area is very similar to Ohio City and generally attracts the same crowd. Just minutes from downtown, Tremont is going through it's very own gentrification process. The restaurants all offer their very own unique experience. The one I would like to focus on in particular is Bourbon Street Barrel Room.
Bourbon Street is Cleveland's own taste of good ol' Louisiana-Style cooking. The dishes are all inspired by a Chef who has first hand experience with Cajun and Creole creations. If you like a little kick in your meals, I would highly recommend giving this establishment a try.
Their portions are very generous, and I can almost guarantee you will be asking the server for box, which is nice because now you have lunch for work tomorrow! Their menu consists of everything you can expect from a Cajun restaurant; jambalaya, gumbo, po'boys, shrimp creole, crawfish and many more tantalizing items. I would advise taking a date who doesn't mind sharing, as you will likely want bite of everything on the menu. In case some of you aren't fans of the extra spice, they have delicious po'boy's and a delicately prepared salmon that will definitely leave you satisfied.
Along with the food items on their menu, their draft list, cocktail menu, and signature drinks will not disappoint. Going in over the past few months I've noticed that their draft list changes quite frequently giving you both local and global options to try from. The signature drink menu sticks with the theme of course, offering Cucumber Mint Gimlets and Hurricanes. The prices are a little bit unnecessary, but you do not need many of their Hurricanes to be in a good state of mind.
Be sure to save some room for dessert! The beignets are freshly cooked upon order and come out hot and ready-to-go. Bourbon Street also offers a creme brulee that is fired to perfection.
Aesthetically, I assume you will be as blown away as I was. The windows open completely as if you are right on the real Bourbon Street enjoying the day, the walls are hand painted with a very festive design and the dim lighting around the place calls for a lovely date night scene. There are two floors and two bars to Bourbon Street Barrel Room as well as a opened kitchen, so you can watch your food being prepared in front of your own eyes.
Overall, I think Bourbon Street Barrel Room is an establishment you must check out next time you're in Tremont. I recommend going on Sundays as their Gumbo is half off and Cocktails are $3 off!
