To My Little Brother And Baby Sister

Dear little bro and baby sis,

The technical part of how we are siblings is a little tricky, and it’s something you will get to hear all about when you’re a lot older. Being your older sibling is one of the best things I can do, and one of the things I take the most pride in. I also have my sister, Carly, (she’s great) who is much closer in age to me, but I didn’t get to watch her grow up like I get to with you guys. Being a 19 year old with a four year old brother and a 7 month old sister has been one of my biggest blessings and I wouldn’t want it any other way. You both light up my life and spending time with you is my favorite thing to do. My favorite thing to do is tell my friends about how great you two are and how much fun you are to be around.

To my little brother: It’s hard to keep up with your energy, but it makes me happy to see you so happy all the time. You truly have the best set of parents and I hope, one day, you start to listen to them a little bit more than you do now. I can’t believe that you will be five years old soon. Being so much older than you allows me to remember when you were a baby and, boy, has time flied since then. You are an amazing, smart, hilarious, adorable little boy with a very bright future ahead. I know you will accomplish and achieve so much on this Earth and I can’t wait to support you through every step of that. Your sense of humor always has me laughing and I have yet to meet a better Spidey than you. You have the best imagination out of everyone I know and I hope you never lose your creativity. Because of you, I have had to learn how to have patience and how to be a good role model.

To my baby sister: I can’t believe that you are already 7 months old. Time has flown by with you too and I wish you could stay a cute little baby forever. Although I am beyond excited to watch you grow up as well, I am really enjoying your infant stage. Your little baby laugh makes me laugh and you are so photogenic that I can’t stop taking pictures of your cuteness. I love our snuggles and naps on the couch together. I will miss that so much when I go to England for a semester in a month. I hope you never again have to face similar struggles to the things you went through when you were first born, and I am so glad you are healthy and happy now. I hope you continue to love mashed up pears and your baby wafer cracker things because one day you will get regular pears and regular crackers and that will be even better than what you eat now. You are so beautiful, and I can’t wait to tell you that all the time when you are older and can understand what I say to you.

I hope as you both grow up, you realize how valuable you both are and remember that so many people love you. I hope you both never take bad things people say about you personally, and remember how much you both are worth. I will always be here for both of you, to talk to, hang out with, and learn from. I know you will both have an undefeatable amount of determination and I can’t wait to see where both of your lives go. Even the strongest people fall sometimes, and I promise that myself and your mom and dad will always be there to pick you back up when you do. I love you both to the moon and back; thank you for making my heart and life so full of happiness.

Love,

Your big sister

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
