Listen to It ... And Escape

This is a list of podcasts that I have been listening to for a couple of years now. They help me escape from not only my work and life stress but also my internal stress that my mind creates. You should check some of them out.

1) Critical Hit

With over 375 podcasts to date, this podcast follows the travels of Orem. This is a group of guys and gals that play Dungeons & Dragons 4th Edition. It is a very fun to listen to and since I love to play Dungeons & Dragons, it is a good listen. Most episodes are around an hour and a half, with a few shorter and a few much longer, so it is a good podcast to listen to on your daily commute. This podcast is released weekly.

2) We're Alive and We're Alive: Lockdown

This is an audio drama that spans a number of seasons. The premise of the audio drama is that the world has gone to hell because of a zombie apocalypse. This audio drama is very immersive and a great listen. All the voices are very distinctive, which is a plus since you never see the characters. And as a bonus, I am in the We're Alive: Lockdown. This podcast has ended, but they might have more coming up very soon.

3) Nerdist

This is a very fun podcast to listen to. It is a series of interviews with any- and everyone imaginable. The host is Chris Hardwick, who is a hilarious comedian and host of the Talking Dead show. Most episodes are around an hour to an hour and a half, so it takes almost no time in your day. They release 2-3 podcasts each week.

4) The Dice Tower

Again towards my nerdy side, I love this podcast because of its topic. The topic of board games. This is more than just Monopoly and Risk. There are hundreds of board games released each year across the world. This podcast helps me find board games that I may like or helps me by reviewing board games I have been thinking of getting. They release podcasts weekly.

5) AMusEd

This is a podcast for all of my music educator friends. This is a podcast start by 4 friends in California to talk through their first 5 years teaching. They talk about any and every topic that can appear in Music Education. It helps me with my anxiety towards teaching, since I can just listen to what they have done. They release new episodes weekly.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
