Personally, I love going home. Seeing my family and friends, eating my favorite meals and spending lazy days with my dogs… it really couldn’t get much better. But after a few weeks, the days can only be so thrilling. So, I’ve come up with a list of suggestions for those days when you’re tired of Netflix (if that’s possible) and need some excitement in your life.
1. Re-Organize
Your Room
Change is a good thing! Move around some furniture and it’ll
feel like a whole new space. And it’s always great to go through your old
things and find those grade school notebooks and love letters from equally
outdated crushes.
2. Update
Your iTunes Library
I don’t know about the rest of you, but my iPod has
some great throwbacks — and some not so great ones. Go back through your old
songs and make some fun playlists!
3. Read a New Book
Personally, I’m a bit of a bookworm so this is a go-to for me.
But even for those of you who don’t usually enjoy reading, I can guarantee
there’s a book out there for you. Check out your local bookstore and find a
novel to get lost in!
4. Contact an Old Friend
Everyone is back in town for break. Chances are, you have a
few friends from back in the day that you just haven’t had the time to keep in
good contact with. Invite an old bestie for coffee and spend some time catching
up!
5. Volunteer
There’s nothing more rewarding than spending your time helping out someone
else. There are plenty of websites to guide in your volunteer adventures. From
spending time at soup kitchens to handing out gloves to the poor, it will be
some time very well spent.
6. (Finally)
Complete a Pinterest Task
I challenge you to complete each activity on
your DIY Pinterest Board! Make a craft, cook a meal, have some fun!
7. Throw a Themed Party
Get the old gang back together! It’s the perfect time of year
for an ugly Christmas sweater party — or any other fun theme you can think of.
It’s a great way to reunite all your high school friends, and who doesn’t love a
party?!
8. Sort
Through Old Clothes
Pick through the items you really need and throw out
those you don’t. You can take some of your old clothes for donation and bring
others to sell at a secondhand store; it’ll give you room and money for the “new year, new me” wardrobe we both know you’re
already planning.
9. Print
Some Pics
In the tech-savvy world that we live in, it is a very rare occasion
for anyone to actually physically print their pictures. While it’s great to
have everything in the palm of your hand, it can be nice to have some printed
pictures to hang in your room or give out to friends. There are even really
cool websites that will let you print Instagram pictures exactly as they are!
10. Make a To-Do List
With all this down
time, there’s no excuse to not make a killer New Year's Resolution. Write down
the things you’d like to change about yourself or how you would want to make
the world better and make a plan of action! New year, new you, remember?
